@bob61 - there's already an option called "only show confirmation on error" which you can use to supress the "ok" message on the auto backup. Is this not working for you?

New version (4.5) is now available to download from my website. Changes include...

- Made compatible with MM3
- Added option to save settings without running backup

Now when you click the backup button, if you have auto backup options selected, you will be asked if you want to create the initial backup. :)

Thank you very much, I have been needing this one, and as usual it works perfectly.

EDIT: Hi Trixmoto, just some cosmetic things, although the script works it has some references to the mediamonkey.mdb file in the abackup/abackup2 vbs files.

Yep, I tried that and it didn't suppress the "OK". I'll try the new version and see if still same. Thanks for the updated script.

Actually nynaevelan that's a little more than cosmetic, it means that the restoration script won't work properly, nor will some of the cleanup operations. In fact the database won't be zipped up either!

I can confirm, just installed and ran. No zip file - But, backup is all there.

Thanks for all of your hard work Trix, when are they gonna put you on the payroll?

Plugins and skins are not zipped too. They seemed to be not included in the ZIP-creation, but they are copied to the temp folder and listed in the restore.vbs.

I'm happy to see this ported to MM3. Thanks :D

In a separate thread, Galaxian said this:
Galaxian wrote:Just installed on MM3 1127 and I am getting the following error when exiting MM:

Windows Script Host:

Script: C:\Prgram Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts\ABackup2.vbs
Line: 69
Error: Permission denied
Code: 800A0046
Sourse: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

Backup runs just fine.

Any ideas?

EDIT:

After running backup the error has changed to:
Line: 70
Char: 9
Error: Variable is undefined 'SDB'
Code: 800A01F4
I had the exact same thing happen. Got the first error, but the backup still worked. But now everytime I close MM3 (I have back up set to go when I close MM), I get the second error that Galaxian mentions.

I have gone through every page of this thread (and others) and have relaxed my internet security options, but the error still happens and the back up does not complete.

Running Win XP SP2.

Sounds like something on your machine is blocking the scripts connection to MediaMonkey. This is probably antivirus or firewall software - you'll need to set this script up as an exception.

New version (4.6) is now available to download from my website. Changes include...

- Fixed references to "MediaMonkey.mdb" in helper scripts
- Fixed "Plugins" and "Skins" not archived or cleaned up

Hopefully this should now been working reliably! :)

It looks like maybe I just didn't know how to use the script. I had the Output Path and the Output Archive both set to the same directory. I had a checkbox on Output path, but not on output archive. And I had it checked to auto backup on shutdown, but not startup.

This scenario was throwing the errors Galaxian and I mentioned. I turned off all antivirus stuff and I don't use software firewall and still got the error.

I decided to try the backup on startup instead of shutdown. This gave me an interesting message... the backup couldn't be done because the output folder already existed. I thought that was strange. So, I unchecked Output Path and checked Output Archive. Same message. So I manually deleted the folder. Next time I opened MM, the backup ran and deleted itself.

So, I don't know why it does that, but I figured I better make the folders in Output Path and Output Archive separate from each other.

Now the Backup works for both startup and shutdown.

Is there anyway to handle my scenario in the code so that it more elegantly lets the user know about using separate paths?

I've tried to follow these steps and cannot get any errors. Maybe you could email me a screenshot of the settings screen?
