MediaMonkey V3 not burning CDs any more???

Post by Dali »

I was using MM V2 (standard edition) and I was burning CDs (out of MP3 files) just fine, although with slow speed. I upgraded to MM V3 and purchased the Gold edition and now everytime I burn a CD MM just shows the message "Burning/Writing CD..." and just hangs for hours! Is this a bug to be fixed???

Dimi, we have never seen such a bug in MM3.
Has anyone such a problem too?

Could you please generate a debug log during that process and send me at
ls < att > mediamonkey < dott > com ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I'm having the same problem.

When I try to burn a music cd it hangs forever as if still burning first track.
I'm trying to burn from the file system not from the library.
It will burn a data cd.
I tried burning at a slower speed and that didn't help.

I had no problem (except speed) with v2. Now with MM v3.0.1.1127 gold
it won't work.

I'm running: WinXP pro SP2, P4 2.6, 1Gb memory, cd/dvd (TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-5182M), 2 HD, no MM plugins
Thanks
Phil

Same here. MM2 worked great. mm3 will not burn a cd for me no matter what I try. I even went back to mm2 and now it won't burn a cd. Everything else seems to work.

After upgrading from Gold 2.5.x to 3.0.1.1127 same problem here.
Trashed some CDs
Workaround: copy files to a folder and use other programm for burning.

Are you burning audio CD or a data CD/DVD? Are you sure that you are not trying to burn any deadlinks (files that not exists), based on a log from a user I found out (and reproduced) that it was the problem why MM just shows the message "Burning/Writing CD..." and just hangs for hours.

I fixed this handling of deadlinks so that they are automatically removed from burning queue, it is fixed in the next beta (B2) of MM 3.0.2.
I've also added more debug messages.

Try to test the MM 3.0.2 B2 later and let me know if it helps, if not, generate a MM debug log and hpCDE.log and send them to
ls <att>mediamonkey <dot> com

Thank you for your help.

I just tried to burn an audio CD and had the same issue. The tracks will queue up fine and it will say Burning... but will never finish. I checked the tracks and they are all accessible so that 's not it. I've installed the debug version and am running that to see if I can get a log.

There's two different things I tried, and I get an interesting discovery:

1. I changed to a default skin and stopped getting some of the crashes on startup and mode change. I assume it's because of the skin that I was using (Black Monkey).

2. I burned another CD using some different tracks and it worked. I'm not sure if there is a problem with the particular tracks that I selected or what, but it appears that might be the case. I'll test some more and advise.

One thing... How do I go back to a regular installation of MM from the debug version?

I am experiencing this, too. I highlight the tracks I want to burn to a CD and then click the burn to CD button in the toolbar and it goes through the menu about using on all CDs etc and then goes into "burn" mode and the taskbar at the botton saws "writing."

Yesterday it it was running for six hours for 15 average tracks onto a standard CD before I gave up.

I am very new to MM and using the free V3 version and thought it was just me - seems I over estimated my own stupidity 8)

Nero works fine but I want the volume levelling facility

Just a quick addition, I upgraded to 3.02.1134 and tried again wioth the same result but when I tried to eject the CD from the drive it wouldn't let me - the drive tray stayed shut. Rebooted and tray opened no problem.

Upgrading to 3.02.1134 seems to have solved the problem. Burning okay, albeit at slow speed, which means I need to upgrade to gold :D

I have to add myself to this group.

I'm trying to burn a data dvd and MM 3.0.2.1134 hangs up and locks the drive. Shows "writing" and track info in status bar but no progressive action.

1. If I right click and select terminate on the status bar, I get no feedback that it is terminating the process (which it apparently isn't).

2. If I close MM I get feedback that "background processes are running" and "do I want to terminate". I say yes and MM closes to the system tray (I do not have this option turned on). Upon inspection of processes running in Windows Task Manager, MM is still there and the drive is still flashing and locked.

3. I kill the process in Windows Task Manager and MM goes away but the dvd tray is still flashing and locked and I have to reboot the system to regain control.

4. No writing takes place to the dvd at all. I can still use the same disc with Nero to burn the disc after trying with MM.

I have a sata burner if that makes a difference and running XP SP2.

Just info. From my hardware experience I have found that SATA DVD Burners are acting strange thrum out the system and in various applications not just MM and with each new burner you will maybe in need for latest Nero that have drivers for burner. I'm evading them as much as possible. HD DVD and Blu-Ray are completely different story where PATA (IDE) interface is on edge of bandwidth even using UDMA 6 Transfer rates, but that is yet to be seen.
