Hi,
most of this has been discussed but i don't have a satisfying solution yet... In short: i want my music to be visible on my home network as well as locally when i disconnect from this network.
I've got a mobile usb disk which contains my MM database and all my music. This disk is connected to a laptop which in turn is connected to a router. There's also another computer connected to this router. I can play my music from this usb disk on both computers. This is great!
Here comes the catch: when i want to go out with my laptop and usb-disk and play my music i can't. The paths to the songs are networkpaths, and when i disconnect from this network these songs cannot be found. Still: the usb disk is connected. This behavior is expected but could be improved. Is there a way to twist MM's arm to play the same song both networked and locally without copying these files around?
I was thinking to run MM from this usb disk and use relative paths for the songs, but i can't figure out if MM accepts relative paths. I've never seen them in the file monitor for instance.
Well, i hope someone can shed some light on this.

no solution yet
hey, haven't found a solution yet. I hope someone can help, or just explain that this won't work.

Unfortunately there is no solution due to no support for multiple databases.
If each computer has independant databases and just shares the files, you could utilze the 'virtual cd' feature to 'cache' the network files to whichever local computer.. then mm will use the virtual cd files when the network is disconnected.

Well, that's kind of what i expected.
Maybe a workaround would be to use the sql sript by Bex. With a single query one could modify the network-paths to local paths by changing the mediaID and maybe replacing a part of the path. Kind of a hassle but risk free (after updating the database of course) and needs no copying of files. hmm.
Thanks for the explanation about the multiple database thing by the way.
