CD ripping very slow with free version
I'm new to the forum so excuse me if this has been discussed a lot but ripping CD's with MM is painfully slow but when I rip the same discs using WMP or Roxio, that's a whole lot faster. Anyone else having this problem or have an answer as to why this is? I'd like to keep using MM but this is a major sticking point for me. Also, if I rip using one of the other programs I can't seem to find the files in MM.
The slow ripping speed is by design in the free version. There are some other features left out also - see http://www.mediamonkey.com/download.htm for details.
If you add or remove music outside of MM3, you need to get it to rescan your library. You can do this manually with File>Add/Rescan tracks to the Library or you can configure MM3 to rescan automatically at launch with Tools/Options/Library/File Monitor.
Hope this helps. For what it's worth, I've been using Mediamonkey for more years than I care to recall and haven't yet found a better tool for ripping, tagging and organising my music library.

I ripped at normal speed with Roxio Easy CD, then manually scanned the tracks as you suggested, then put them in a playlist which I successfully sent to my Sansa Clip. (Without this forum & the Sansa forum, man I'd have no hair by now!!)jwylot wrote:You're welcome RickH. I just realised though that the automatic library feature is disabled in the free version so you will have to scan manually each time you add music with another app.
Much appreciated.
That's burning that's crippled in the free version, not ripping.jwylot wrote:The slow ripping speed is by design in the free version. There are some other features left out also - see http://www.mediamonkey.com/download.htm for details.
RickH, ripping should work at the highest possible speed for you. There are no limits with the free version.
I've just tested ripping and with both versions (free&gold) it rips 4 minutes of audio in 20 seconds with converting to WMA simultaneously.
So I don't see why it should be slow for you.
What is your system spec?
My is Win XP SP2, AMD Athlon 4000+ , dual core.
and to which format do you convert the tracks?

I'm also using Win XP but not sure of my computer's specs - it's a Gateway we've had for 3 or 4 years. I've been formatting to MP3 160kbps. Mostly what I've been ripping lately are cd-r's with like 20 tracks, etc. I'll keep working with ripping with MM, & try some officially-released label CD's, and let you know if I see an improvement. It just seemed that, as I mentioned in my original post, my drive moves much quicker when ripping with Easy CD Creator.Ludek wrote:What is your system spec?
