As I stated in the guide, you can't sync playlists.

Sorry SoStark, I missed your post before. Unfortunately every time I sync my Zune with MM, MM wants to delete every track before re-syncing each song. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but its the best we can do ATM!

autosync vs selected sync

Post by Guest »

I hope this isn't too basic a question!

In the guide you show auto sync options. Are the same steps required to sync selected music to the Zune?

Thanks

Nothing is too basic! :D

No, those same steps are not required. You can select whatever you'd like to limit what you are syncing. Personally, I don't have over 30 gigs of music so I just sync everything. Keep in mind, though, that if you choose playlists to sync, only the tracks from those playlists will be copied to the Zune; the playlists themselves are not made.

Okay, I have the Zune 80 and I'm having a bit of trouble.
Mainly, my music seems to be transferred, but it's just tossed in as songs under the artist, there's no album listing, nor album artwork. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but with 65 GB of music, it can be annoying to find a song when for one artist you might have 400 tracks. ANYWAYS.

Here are the steps I'm following.

I connect my Zune, software starts up. I begin a sync with a large video file and ctrl-alt-delete End Zune.exe process. I open zAlternator and switch to Generic WPD. I close it and open up MM. I then select all files, click on sync and let it run. If nothing goes wrong (outside of MM) the files will all transfer, but there's no organization to it, nor is the album art attached.

I have a Zune 80, MM v. 3.0.2.1134 Gold, and 15754 Files (65.4 GB) at 994:45:32. I only include the library stats in case it's some sort of limit with how much can be sync'd and categorized at once although that doesn't make sense to me.

I've tried changing a few settings to see if that would work, but to no avail. Anyone have any tips?

Hmm, thats something I definitely haven't seen. The first thing I would recommend is that you upgrade to MM 3.0.3.1140, as many bugs were fixed.

There shouldn't be any limit for how much can be sync'ed at once. When you say you select all files then 'sync' are you using the Send -> to feature or are you Auto-synchronizing? I have only ever tried the auto-sync although I have also heard that send to works properly as well. I'm also syncing to a 30gb zune but that also shouldn't matter as both of them are running the same firmware. Perhaps if you try everything I've suggested and it still isn't working, you could try just syncing a few tracks to see if there is some limit to how many tracks should be sent at once. Post back your results as I'm interested in what's going on.

Also, when I want to do movies, I just need to switch zAlternator back to Zune(Default) and just use the Zune software?

Thanks for the help.
Yes, and yes. I haven't been able to do a successful sync without clearing all of the music off my Zune first. You can leave your movies and pictures on there, however.
I have used this hack and not had to delete anything. I do, however, have a question. If I want the Zune software to recognize my Zune again, do I need to run zAlt again to set it back to what it was before? I did the hack for the first time last night and used MM and loved it, but now the Zune software doesn't load my Zune.

Yes, you have to run zAlternator and change it back to Zune (default).

Do I need to have everything up and running or can I just fire zAlt up and make the change?

so I got my Zune 80 yesterday. I tried doing the whole ZAlternator thing to sync with mediamonkey, but I was seeing some strange behavior. I would add albums, and they would show up, but then I'd remove them and they wouldn't be gone. Also I was having trouble with syncing video with the zune software after switching service providers with zalternator.

So what I did is try the native Zune software on a little test library. Happily, I saw that it didn't extract the album art into a folder.jpg (maybe that behavior happened in earlier versions, nohitter?) So I tried another test: to see if the zune software was smart enough to read file changes on startup. I opened my test library in MediaMonkey, made some changes, and voila! Zune software picked them right up.

So basically I am able to use MediaMonkey to organize my library and handle all of the tag manipulation, and the zune software picks up all the changes I make and syncs them back to the device. I am a happy camper.

Did you turn on viewing of hidden files? The Zune software has always hidden the album arts that it extracts in the same folders that the music is stored in. I'm relatively certain I've got the most recent version of the Zune software.

yep, hidden files are set to show up, and there's no images anywhere.

theyre actually the protected operating system files that you need to have visible, not just hidden files, in order to see the album art in folders. however, if it is embedded in the tags of the mp3 (properly) then you can delete all image files in the folders. i enable viewing of protected operating system files, then do a search in my music folder for jpg files, and delete anything it finds

i am having trouble getting the zune software to pick up changes i make to mp3s (changes made outside the zune software). i use winamp for all playback, and a few minor tag adjustments here and there, but mainly mediamonkey for tag updates like album art and mass-edits. seems like the zune software doesnt pick up edits ive made to files that already exist in the library. (such as if i update album art on an album, or change the genre of an album)
