1164 'Update Track info from Tags...' is bust!

Post by chrisjj »

'Update Track info from Tags when rescanning files' fails on track files from which tag(s) have been removed by an external program, i.e. it fails to update that property to blank. This is regardess of '[ ] Only for files with changed timestamp or size'.

Workaround: first delete all affected track files from the library.
EDIT: Yowch! This erases the references from any playlists such that they stay gone after the Add/Rescan restores the tracks.

This isn't exactly a new issue, I touched on it over a year ago.

Tag Frame reappearing & Tag Data not updated properly

If anyone can suggest a workaround not messing playlists, please do!

Only work around I can think of is, instead of deleting the tag with the outside program, instead change it to something unique like "I NEED TO DELETE THIS TAG" and then when the tags are updated in MediaMonkey, find them all through the tree (if it's something like Artist, Album, etc.), through a custom search (for Custom fields, Comment, etc.) or use a Magic Node as an alternative to a custom search. Then, delete the field using MediaMonkey. *Shrugs*

Depending on how much you know about the externally edited tracks.
(could sort by file modified date/time)

It's usually a good idea to have MM running and file monitor active when using external editors.

1. Tools --> Advanced Tag Management --> Clean ID3v1 and v2 tags
May flag MM to rescan/update the blank tags.

2. Select all affected tracks --> properties --> clear appropriate fields.

Hi, I had this problem (with a different app) and I realized it had to do with id3 v1 tags.

Situation:
MM tag settings set to save id3 v2 + unicode tags

cleared some fields with MM

tags did not clear on other app (musicip mixer)

cleaned id3 v1 tags in mm, then tags cleared on mixer.

...................

perhaps the same problem manifests itself in reverse:

clear tags in other app (only v1 or v2 tags are cleaned but not both)

mm reads the tags which aren't cleared

Nah, not a single file of mine has ID3v1 tags and I still get the problem.

Good idea MM - thanks - though it is not an option for files that already don't have these tags.

Not here. This affects tags supported by V1.
