Problem querying the database

Post by Mthrsuperior »

There was a problem querying the database: Error executing SQL Statement "INSERT INTO ArtistSongs(PersonType, IDArtistSong) VALUES (?,?,?)" unable to open database file(14,14)

The instruction in quotes varies from error to error

I can usually click through it via Retry but once this begins happening it takes about 30-40 minutes for MM to sync my iPod even before it starts erasing old content and transferring new tracks.

Maintaining the MM library doesn't fix it.
I can maintain it fine until the first sign of the error message above then MM locks up whenever I try to maintain.

The most frustrating part is that even if I completely remove the database and/or do a full reinstall of MM this error eventually returns

Wiping the iPod hasn't helped either.

I'm not doing anything I can think of that would cause this.

Can anyone offer some troubleshooting tips?

No.
No crashes or anything at all that would seem to cause this.
Other than this issue everything runs well.

I've been using the Monkey for years and this has just happened in the last month.

I am always using the latest beta3.

I'm about to rebuild again with the 3.0.2.1184 and we'll see what happens

Just opened the .ini SQLsafety was set to 2.
I thought 0 was default.
This is puzzling. It would account for the slowness but uh, that's a little bizzare how unstable it is

Edited my post a bit.

Could this be caused by non standard characters in my tags?

It's getting worse.
This is from the first iPod sync on a brand new database

Where do you have your database stored?

Perhaps you should open a support ticket:

Tagging Inconsistencies Do you think you have your tags in order? Think again...

Ticket Replied, and for anyone else that happen to encounter "unable to open database file(14,14)" error please report if Retry fixes the error?

Yeah, I had that too sometimes. I'll report it when it happens again.

I noticed today I get similar errors when converting file formats too.

Hitting retry will move past the error.
In that sense it isn't the worst problem to have.
It can occur several times in one iPod synch or batch conversion though.

It's frustrating if I'm doing a long synch or conversion and I come back later to find the Monkey is waiting for a response and nothing has happened.

Tonight, or tomorrow, I'm going to do a fresh install with no scripts and see what happens.
Before that I'll send the info that was request in the ticket response.
(Which BTW was really quick) :D

It does make sense that another process is locking the DB file.
Given that it happened even after a fresh Windows XP install, I'm wondering if the culprit is Zone Alarm???
Nothing much else was installed on the PC when the error started again.

Well folks,

It appears this was caused by a naughty 3rd party script.

I've removed all my 3rd party scripts, started a fresh database, and now I can't reproduce the problem.

I'll update again if it turns up again.
Otherwise, no news is good news.

PS. I removed all scripts at once.
Sorry I can't pinpoint which one it was.

Would be nice if you found the script which caused it so the author can fix it! :)

A very late update.

This had nothing to do with MM or any scripts.
The Zone Alarm anti-virus was locking files, including the database for MM.

No Zone Alarm = No Problems.
