Forum Upgrade

Ick. I think it's a step backward (appearance-wise). Ah well, I'll get used to it I guess. :-?

Of course it will take some getting used to. Its always hard to adapt to such a big change, but I'm sure we'll get used to it.

It is nice how it is integrated with the website.

It certainly will take some time getting used to. It looks more professional than the old forum, but that one was simple. Simple is often easier! My issue with the new forum is the search when results have posts with no titles, not you can't see what thread it belongs to. Secondly the New/Old post status buttons are very similar which makes it hard to tell apart.

I don't like it. :(
It looks nice but that's all.

1) Weird jscript or interface make it incompatible with Fill-in-password software, the wweb page is not even detected by these programs.
2) You can't put a bookmark to the login page since a number is generated in the address each time you want to log on.
3) When you click a link into a post, it will NOT open it in a new browser page, making coming back difficult because sometimes the browser cache get overwritten or the page refresh just disconnect you and you need to log in again.
4) How do you delete your last post? if you post to the wrong topic?

Well, I think I need to do with it...

When you do a search, look in the column which shows the username of the person who posted it. Look under the name and you'll see what forum the post was made under as well as the topic it was created it.

That's true. There doesn't seem to be any way to delete your own posts now. That's a problem for me because I often need to save myself from some embarrassment by deleting a thread/post I've made where I've found the answer immediately after posting. I guess I just have to suck it up now. :-?

You can ask a moderator to delete a post/topic. We do seem to have this capability.

Not very user-friendly to offer an "upgrade" but "downgrade" services available. :x

Well said, Nyn.

And Lowlander, thanks, but very often there will be no moderator on and I'd rather have the post removed now before someone else posts to it. To be fair, I hated the fact that I needed to contact a moderator to report spam. Now I have a report post button but I can't delete my own posts? This is a step in the wrong direction, IMO. This board is still powered by phpBB so it should be possible to enable that function. Someone just needs to do it.

To clarify: the upgrade made was from phpBB2 to phpBB3. The new version has a lot of features, but I don't know how to enable deletion of own posts. In case you know how to configure it in phpBB (or have any other suggestion), feel free to e-mail it to me or post it here.

Well, Jiri, I can't believe they'd remove the feature so it's probably in there somewhere. I'll try to find out what it is but I'm not an admin of any phpBB forum so my Google's probably not as good as your own documentation. ;)

These might help:
