Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
By the way...when I try doing a "rebuild device database" with the new dll it give me the following application error: "Exception EOleError in module d_iPod.dll at 0001DA3C."
Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
Ok.. there is definitely an issue. I loaded 75 songs from itunes via a playlist sync. all was well with itunes.jiri wrote:Fyi, I just successfully synced 500 tracks with album art and all was ok. Note, that if you used the previous dll, you should clear all tracks from the iPod at first, so that there doesn't remain anything incorrect.
Jiri
I then deleted all the songs, and the playlist and then loaded the exact playlist into the ipod via MM. for the most part it looks alright, but when I choose cover flow it is inaccurate.
example: Guns n roses, "Greatest Hits" album is on there as well as 4 songs from weird al yankovic "greatest hits". When I go to album view, there is only one album called greatest hits, the album art is guns n roses and the contents are ANY album that is entitled "greatest hits".
I just added 2 additional albums with the same name: "greatest hits" Barry white and bob dylan. All the tracks from all 4 albums with the same name are under each artist.
so if each album has 10 tracks individually, when you click on albums view (or coverflow) and view bob dylan, it will show 40 tracks under that album; it's own 10 tracks as well as the 30 from the other albums with the same name. Each artist with the same album name does the exact same thing.
This phenomenon does not occur directly in MM, but only when using MM to sync the ipod.

Nevermind Jiri, I got it working.
I guess I just got fed up with it all and uninstalled and reinstalled media monkey (I may have been using an older version [still version 3 but maybe 3.01 or something like that) and now all is working splendidly. Thanks a lot and sorry for the trouble.

Don't put put the brakes on yet with regard to the DLL.. that issue I just described is in fact a definite issue.. and am using a new install on another computer and the new dll.ToeNipples wrote:Nevermind Jiri, I got it working.

Please look into this further.

that issue that i described as a nano 4g (chromatic) issue with regard to same album names, is in fact A PROBLEM on the 160gb classic. I am not sure if this issue occurs when music is loaded via itunes. My son told me that it did not occur with itunes, but is not completely sure. I will have to look at it when I get home. I am on the road. Please take a look at this issue and see if there is a remedy for it.
I will check out the ipod thing.

Take a look at the jpgs in the greatest hits directory. I noticed that itunes tends to place all greatest hits together. Not sure if you had used itunes to get the files.44enviro wrote:Ok.. there is definitely an issue. Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
all my albums are full rips. Most were ripped initially using vbr with real player gold. I have since switched to MM, but have not done many rips since using MM.
My collection is of 6600 CDs for a total of 89,000 tracks. I only recently began getting album art as I was always reluctant to taint that size library. I have my collection stored on a 1TB drive replicated 3 times and stored offsite at 3 different locations. This collection has cost me thousands of dollars, years to rip and organize, so you can understand my reluctance. But, since owning a ipod a couple of years ago, I decided to embed all album art into the mp3 themselves. I do not have any stand alone jpg album art, unless it is specifically created on sync because of the player or device.
FYI: My collection is used primarily in my home via a music server I set up with spdif out to my digital reciever in my living room, as well split to an alternate amp for outside speakers. I remote admin into the music server from my laptop and connect to MM and use my wireless laptop as a virtual remote control jukebox. It has served me well and is incredible for parties as well as discovering old music long forgotten.

Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
Just been having same problem with album art on my new Nano 16Gb which arrived today. Just found this thread, downloaded the beta .dll file & all seems to be fixed - initial impressions at least!
Thanks
Iain
Thanks

Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
Try loading different artists with same album name. Usually "greatest hits" is very common... see if in album view or coverflow it is not wrong. all of them are one big collection.Maddog wrote:Just been having same problem with album art on my new Nano 16Gb which arrived today. Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
Yup, see what you mean
Only one album in coverflow called "Greatest Hits", however this contains ALL albums called "Greatest Hits" - just playing with two at the moment!!
Interesting though...
I synchronised ZZTop then Red hot Chilli Peppers Both Greatest Hits Albums.
In coverflow it shows "Greatest Hits" and titled Red Hot chilli Peppers with the chilli peppers album art.
In Album view, it shows "Greatest Hits" and titled ZZ Top with the ZZ top album art.
Selecting from either of these methods contain ALL the tracks from both albums (mixed up)
However selecting by Artists view is OK. It lists Red Hot Chilli Peppers & ZZ Top. Selecting either will only display tracks by the chosen artist.
Adding a further "Greatest Hits" album (Robbie Williams this time) makes no difference to the results above (when synchronised).
I need to retry my steps again with iTunes, as I don't think this produced the results I was expecting either.

Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
Ah, that was quick
Imported my 3 folders into iTunes
Only difference is
I synchronised (drag & drop) ZZTop then Red hot Chilli Peppers Both Greatest Hits Albums.
In coverflow it shows "Greatest Hits" and titled Red Hot chilli Peppers with the chilli peppers album art.
In Album view, it shows "Greatest Hits" and titled Red Hot chilli Peppers with the chilli peppers album art.
Selecting from either of these methods contain ALL the tracks from both albums (by order added ie tracks 1-x of album 1, then tracks 1-x of album 2)
However selecting by Artists view is OK. It lists Red Hot Chilli Peppers & ZZ Top. Selecting either will only display tracks by the chosen artist.
Adding a further "Greatest Hits" album (Robbie Williams this time) makes no difference to the results above (only adding tracks 1-x to the end of the list).

Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
This works great for me so far. Fixed the album art issue. Thanks for the .dll
Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
yes, it appears the album art issue that was originally brought to light was fixed, but there is still the issue with albums of the same name by different artists.
I restored my 4g nano back to factory defaults. I then used itunes exclusively to import all my greatest hits albums by many different artists.
it appears this issue exists in itunes as well.
I am not sure if this is indicative of a ipod device issue or the import procedure on both apps (mm, itunes) fails to properly format or code that portion of the view.
anything in the works for this fix?

Re: iPod Nano Chromatic (4th Generaion) Album art
If even iTunes gets the art mixed up in that situation, I doubt there's much that the MM devs can do to avoid it (outside of some workaround like renaming your albums when they're synced)
