wininet error #126 : (Unknown WININET error)
Windows Vista Ultimate (32-Bit) with Internet Explorer 8 RC1
Media Monkey 3.07.1191
I have tried subscribing to a number of different podcasts, but when I try to update a podcast, or I try to access the preset podcast directories (Digital Podcast, podfeed.net, podcast.com), I get a 'wininet error #126 : (Unknown WININET error)' message. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software with no luck.
Any suggestions as to how I can solve this problem would be most welcome.

I suspect it has something to do with IE 8, any way you can test this on another computer with IE 7 or below?

Re: wininet error #126 : (Unknown WININET error)
Sure enough, I uninstalled IE8 RC1 restoring IE7, reinstalled MM and all is now well.
Something for development - IE8 compatability !
Many thanks - absolutely fabulous product - perfect for managing all of my audio media and syncing with my BlackBerry Curve 8310.

Re: wininet error #126 : (Unknown WININET error)
IE 8 is a beta product and as such might cause problems with existing applications depending on it. This can be due to a IE8 beta bug or due to a feature change. This means that compatibility will happen, but might not happen until a final release.
BTW. IE 8 works fine for other functions for me on XP (I don't use podcasts).

That's not going to cut it when IE 8 is released in the next month or so. Seriously, this is a bug.nohitter151 wrote:So get rid of IE8.Goodboy87 wrote:Thats the exact problem I have too!

Have you considered that it might be a bug in IE8 beta itself?Disposable wrote:That's not going to cut it when IE 8 is released in the next month or so. Seriously, this is a bug.

This happens in Build 3.1.1224 on Windows Server 2008 with Chrome 2.0.164.0 and IE 8 RC1 (8.0.6001.18372) installed. I haven't gotten a podcast in months

Re: wininet error #126 : (Unknown WININET error)
The purpose of a release candidate is to give OTHER software vendors a chance to resolve issues before actual release. If we sit on bugs until IE is final, all the while ASSUMING it is a bug in IE, we're merely delaying when we have to deploy a fix... that's a huge disservice to the end-user.Lowlander wrote:Have you considered that it might be a bug in IE8 beta itself?

Re: wininet error #126 : (Unknown WININET error)
Just wondering if this could be due to the restrictive internet security settings that are common for Internet Explorer on Windows Server?
Are there Vista/Server 2008 users out there that can use Podcasts in MediaMonkey when they have Internet Explorer 8 installed?

But assuming it's a bug in MediaMonkey serves no purpose if the bug in the other application and you are assuming that. The same goes both ways.
I don't know where the bug lies so that's why I'm trying to see if we can get to the bottom of it.

Re: Unknown WININET error
I doubt it. You've picked up on the error #126 (in the subject of this message)... the error dialog box in this version of MediaMonkey DOES NOT show any error number, just the message "Unknown WININET error". I apologize for not changing the subject line in prior messages. That said, I've toasted all my cookies in IE AND using third party tools, just to be sure.Lowlander wrote:Additional reading: http://www.computing.net/answers/securi ... 17374.html

Yes, works fine on 99.9% of the net that I surf.Lowlander wrote:Can you navigate the internet without issues using Internet Explorer 8?
Nope, just MediaMonkey has issues. And I'm NOT convinced that it's got anything to do with IE 8... started happening sometime on or after 1/26 and I installed MM build 1215 on the 1/27th, Windows Live on the 28th and IE 8 on the 29th. It could really be any of those things.Lowlander wrote: Do you get constant security messages from Internet Explorer 8?

I've disabled IE "enhanced security" (gad, that's a real pain!). It did run fine on Win2K8 prior to this spate of issues, I'll be installing on Win7 sometime this week and I'll update.Lowlander wrote:Just wondering if this could be due to the restrictive internet security settings that are common for Internet Explorer on Windows Server?

To be clear, I've run MM in Win2K8 for months with no issues (other than having to run with admin privs to rip CDs). It's just a recent issue with podcasts that has got me a bit flustered. I miss my dose of Coverville.
