iPhone not recognized by MM

Post by nohitter151 »

Is anyone having a problem with build 1240 and the iPhone/Touch? For some reason MM isn't detecting my iPhone when its plugged in, though iTunes recognizes it. I also tried a regular iPod in the same USB port and it was detected and I was able to sync with MM.

I haven't tried downgrading to see if the new build introduced some problem (last I synced was with build 1237) but I'll do so if someone can confirm they have the same problem with 1240. If not, well, back luck for me then

Edit: Just rolled back to 1237 and the iPhone still isn't being recognized by MM :(

Looks like this must be related to something else as it was previously working fine. Now to figure out what that is...

[EDIT BY MODERATOR: This is related to the version of iTunes that was installed. Last version that doesn't exhibit this problem is 8.1.0.52 ]

Just tried replacing the following files from previous builds (1237 and 1235):

d_iPhone.dll
d_iPod.dll

also tried updating itunes and Apple Mobile Device support

finally tried reinstalling 1240

as I have said previously itunes detects and syncs with ipod with no problems, mediamonkey will not pick up the device

Any ides of things to try?

I have not been able to resolve this yet either.. maybe there really is some problem?

I have even tried upgrading my device firmware from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and also reinstalled Windows/iTunes/Quicktime, but still MM won't detect my iPhone.

iTunes can detect and sync to it without issue :(

Mine is jailbroken as well, but that shouldn't make a difference. I also know that it previously worked with build 1237, so I'm not sure why it won't work now...

When you upgraded did it restore all settings on ipod to defaults? I am wondering if it worth restoring the ipod via itunes but am reluctant to do it due to the time it will take to set it all back up/jailbreak it again

No, I had iTunes backup and restore my data on the upgrade. I'm reluctant to restore the device all over again, not because of the jailbreaking process, but because I hate to lose my contacts, apps, and other data that will be difficult to retrieve.

I found the problem:

MM is incompatible with the latest version of iTunes. I rolled back to 8.0.0.35 (available here: http://www.oldversion.com/iTunes.html )

And now MM can detect my iPhone again.

You must uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device support, and Apple software update from the control panel prior to installing the older version of iTunes, because iTunes won't let you install an older version than the one currently on your machine.

EDIT: Tested this extensively, the last version of iTunes to work w/ iPhones/iTouches and MM is iTunes 8.1.0.52

AFTER DOWNGRADING YOUR ITUNES, YOU MUST RESTART MM FOR THIS TO WORK. It will then recognize your iPhone.

My iPhone is 2G, Jailbroken and MM works perfectly after installing the legacy iTunes.

Ok I have itunes 8.1.0.52 installed and this syncs up with my Ipod touch v2.1.1(Jailbroken)

Mediamonkey 3.1.0.1242 Still will not recognise the Ipod, any ideas of other stuff to check?

EDIT: I was using a switchless version of 8.1.0.52 as I did not want quicktime to install on my system. It seems that this did not install a necessary component for this installation. You need to install the full version of itunes

EDIT: seems that you cannot use the QTLite and QTLite Itunes addon, as soon as Quicktime is uninstalled ipod connectivity drops, even after QTLite is installed to get Itunes up and running again
