1247 Add/Rescan fails on empty m3u [#5677]
1 Do Add/Rescan on an empty .m3u file
Expected: appears in Imported m3u Playlists.
Observed: does not.
This prangs:
a) restore from backups created by scripts that do respect empty playlists (created in MM) such as http://solair.eunet.rs/~zvezdand/Export ... bNodes.htm - thanks ZV
b) my pipeline in which template playlists are created by another program

Thanks.

I suggest every user with a preference would prefer it be imported!
I can't see any benefit in the current behaviour - if anyone prefers it, please do say.

I am one of those who would prefer that it not be imported, although I do have some playlists which are empty most times since they are only used for editing purposes, if I should decide to import playlists back into MM, I would not want them imported into MM. But I do not really care either way, in other ways I could care less about them. So I guess all this rambling is not really helping you at all...

Don't you want them reimported... for editing purposes?

No, because they are never deleted. And if for whatever reason my db becomes corrupted or unstable, I can just restore from a backup. To tell you the truth the only time I import playlists is when I am copying them to the db on my laptop or work computer or into Winamp, neither of these locations that have copies of my editing or archived playlists. For this reason it does not matter to me what the preferred behavior of MM is.chrisjj wrote:> they are only used for editing purposes, if I should decide to import playlists back into MM, I would not want them imported into MM

How about you'd want to create these template playlist names with a text editor or program?

I suppose I could if the need ever arose, but it hasn't so far. So I am content with however the consensus decides the normal behavior should be. To tell you the truth the rare times I do need to import playlists, I do not use MM's Add/scan feature becuase it does not have the ability to only select individual playlists when they are in a directory with other music or playlists. I like more control over what is imported,so I use a script for my importing needs.chrisjj wrote:How about you'd want to create these template playlist names with a text editor or program?

Unfortunately one that is not available anymore, it is MoDementia's DEISync script. Which has the ability to not only import playlists individually but also by folder along with the ability to import/export the database between multiple locations.chrisjj wrote:> it does not have the ability to only select individual playlists ... so I use a script for my importing needs.

I don't see a point either in importing empty playlists. What's the point of using a text editor to create empty playlists to be imported if you can create these empty playlists directly in MediaMonkey?
I suggest that an advanced setting covers the 2 options.

I see no need for an option. Why would anyone who has no use for empty playlists have any that would be afffected?

There are a multitude of reasons that could have happened. With all the media players in use the chance that empty playlists exist is feasible. That's why I suggest it to be an option so that users in both situations can decide what they need to happen. This is better than tailoring to just one user group.

Not necessarily. If the UI had an option for every possible alternative behaviour, it would be horribly cluttered.
