As you have correctly guessed, MoD has basically discontinued this script, citing that he wasn't too happy with how it worked under the hood, and that better efforts may now exist.

Looking at your post in the Track Redirection & Synchronization topic I see you are trying to do something quite similar to me - a topic I've been exploring in depth in my own post

I have yet to compare the Track Synchronization option to what the Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix script offers, but essentially both seem to have sufficient overhead to setup what auto-conversion does for free - except as I note in my topic, auto-conversion does not cache these compressed tracks - a request to fix/enhance this is posted here - which is a shame, as it would be a very nice fix for my (our ?) issue.
