Autocomplete doesn't work right

Post by ddiction »

I just upgraded to 3.1 (Gold) and noticed the autocomplete feature now works for multiple artists in the Artist field. However, I have noticed that it behaves very strangely. When I begin typing an artist's name, sometimes the autocomplete will find a name that matches the first character, then jump the cursor to one character from the rightmost character. So if I start typing Jane's Addiction, for example, after I type the J it will come up with the first "J" name in its database, which for me is:

J Mascis

but with the "J Masci" portion highlighted (and not the "s"). Then when I type the "a" in "Jane's Addiction" the entire "J Masci" highlighted portion is replaced by the "a" leaving me with "as". Then if I keep typing it will continue inserting before the "s" until I am left with "ane's Addictions".

This seems to happen frequently, but not all the time. So far I have only noticed it when adding additional artists using the semicolon delimiter. It is incredibly annoying, and sometimes I have to go back and delete the name several times and type very slowly until it works properly.

Any ideas?

edit: I should also mention that I have a fairly large collection of around 82,000 mp3s with over 11,000 artist names. It is possible that it may be a performance issue, but I've got a pretty new gaming rig (AMD Phenom quad core, 6GB RAM, <1y old).

Also, this doesn't seem to happen to me when editing the main artist... only when appending an artist to an existing one. And it also seems to be most frequent when the first artist in the database beginning with that letter appears as a single initial followed by a space (no period after the initial).

Just FYI, I think I figured out the problem. Autocomplete will behave strangely if you don't add a space after the semicolon when inserting an additional artist. The space gets added automatically anyway after saving the tag (as in previous versions), but now if you don't put the space in manually before typing the name of the additional artist, the behavior I described above will occur.
