Best Way to Move Tracks to New Drive For MediaMonkey
Just installed a new server (HP EX490) and want to move my entire song collection from my PC local drive onto the network drive. Once I move all the files (about 35,000) , whats the best way to update MediaMonkey Path details so that my current collection information (rating, date added, etc) is retained?

I would suggest instead of moving them outside of MM instead to use the AutoOrganize feature to move them. But make a backup of your db before you start anything.

Thanks - I had started down the path of copying all files to the new drive, then rescan the tracks on that drive and then deleting the original track information from MM. Not sure if this is any faster or slower than my original approach, but it's much more straight forward.

I guess it is more straightforward if you do not want to lose anything in MM.

I was saying that your approach was more straight forward than the approach I had originally considered.

LOL, ok I thought so also but I thought maybe I was missing the point you were making. It may take a while to move so many files but in the long run it would make your process a little easier without losing anything in MM.

It's all good, and everything is now moved over to the server, files replicated and I'm feeling better about accessing my files from any of my PC's in the house (and even remotely) plus them being much more secured from disk failure. Thanks again.nynaevelan wrote:LOL, ok I thought so also but I thought maybe I was missing the point you were making. I will be getting a WD network drive soon. How did you go about providing remote access to the library?

Tell me do you see any speed differences? I tried adding my tracks to the network a while back but the speed was so much slower that I gave up on it and moved them back to a local location.

In what sense is it slower?

Transitioning between playing tracks, exiting properties after tagging, autotag from web, these are just a few that I remember but as I said it's been several months since I tried using it as a network. Also, there were significant speed differences when using various scripts so I decided to give up.

It probably also depends on network and the network drive. I do find that sometimes it's extremely slow to tag, but playback works fine for me.

Re: Best Way to Move Tracks to New Drive For MediaMonkey
I'm sure that is it, I do not have a high end network drive. And scripts are critical for me so I would rather have access to all my scripts, if I must keep my music in three locations to do that, than so be it.
Hopefully when MM incorporates streaming, I can use that instead.
