[MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications

Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
I have already rebuilt my database twice, and I've had the same errors each time. I can certainly send the database to the developers, somehow. It is ~170mb, but I can fire it onto Rapidshare and send to them. Anybody particular I should contact?
Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
Did you start with an empty database then?
(I.e. Close MM, rename your db to mm.db.old or something similar, restart mm and a new empty db will be created, then scan your tracks.)

Hey Bex,
Yep, I deleted the MM.db file each time before re-adding everything (which is a longgg process with this many tracks). I've found a couple posts relating to similar problems under Win7x64, such as this one:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =7&t=44781
It seems like there is a problem with either MM or SQLite and win7 x64 I think.. They don't seem to play well.
It's a real shame too, this also prevents the last.fm auto-DJ from working properly (as it uses the artist field), among other things. Might have to go back to iTunes or Songbird until this gets ironed out.

1. As I replied in open Ticket, Bex is right copy of MM.DB can show what errors are, Compress it with RAR, ZIP, 7zip and it will be more than twice in size and regarding filehosting services I personally use Megaupload and Netload
2. Yes, personally I use MM on x64 for at least 6Months and have almost same setup as you (See http://www.sysprofile.de/id59377 )

Hi
I see that there is an extra space in between "The" and "Shins".
It Should be The Shins, But It is The _Shins. (The underline is only there to visualize the error)
Maybe That's why it does this?.

Yes most likely as Space comes before A letter in ASCII table and thus THE is ignored it is logical to show before A.

Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
I am also having this problem. Notice that Bob Dylan albums are listed under "Muse". Also, I have no idea why Run-DMC and Muse are categorized under Folk-Rock.

Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
A few suggestions that you can check, just to pinpoint the problem more clearly and send it to the MM developerswith a better context. I would not rebuild the entire database again, but rename the old one, and make a small new one, by adding a few folders that were misclassified / causing errors.
MM builds up a database from reading all the information in the files and the tags, so something must go wrong there I guess.
Q1: Is it also happening with a small database?
Q2: Is it consistent, happening with the same albums if you repeat it (in another order maybe)?
Q3: Anything weird in the tags if you look at them in MM?
Q4: If you scan the same albums in another program, like WMP, are the tags ok then?
Q5: Are your files on a network drive that is formatted in a special way? Not all formats are equal, eg a Linux based NAS filesystem and a W7 implementation may not use the same characters in the folder/filenames. With some fantasy I could imagine that this screws up the MM database, because eg 'normal' characters enter the database as field separators, although I would suspect the the SQL system would check things like this.
Q6: If you move the source files to a (local) drive, is there still a problem?
Just some thoughts..

@2uantuM
I tested your library on My PC and apron start MM updated (v3.2.0.1294) it like there was some error, then I navigated to Folk Rock Genre and got this: Here is your DB after I started it in my MM

Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
I'm also experiencing the same problem, but it's with the genres. If I click on say "Folk Rock" I will get things such as Jean Leloup, which belong there, but when I click on Jean Leloup it shows "Bent" (amongst others), which is quite clearly marked as "Chill Downtempo". I also get artists such as Gas which will show the Gas songs when I click on it, but Gas doesn't belong there in the first place, since it's "Electro Ambient" (again, this is clearly marked).
The tests I've done so far is simply selecting all of "Gas" and re-tagging it as "Electro Ambient" (even though this is what is already being shown), which will then put it in the appropriate place, but I have too much music to retag all my music like this I believe, especially when I consider the possibility that it'll get corrupted again.
It should be noted that the Album Artist node works normally: if I click on an artist, it shows the right stuff.
There have been other tests mentioned which I will do and post back here, but I wanted to ask the OP: have you let anyone else use your hard drive? For me, this is a problem with my girlfriend's external hard drive (FAT partition) which she reads using iTunes and OSX. I only recently noticed this problem, at the same time as I combined the library I had built up on her hard drive and that on my own external hard drive (which has a broken enclosure and my mobo's sata ports are screwed, so I don't have an external hard drive atm). I have a small collection on my computer (50GB) directly copied from the external hard drive and which I'm rescanning right now and it seems to be working normally. So it's just the external hard drive. But I have tried rebuilding the library to no avail and my gf told me that she was also seeing some weirdly categorized music, so the problem seems to have shown up on her computer as well, suggesting that the problem is with the drive. And yet, we've been using it for several months now and this is the first time I notice this problem (I added 250GB from my own hard drive, reformatted windows without saving my database, so many things happened at the same time I noticed the problem).

Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
Is there a way to just "retag" with the same tags all the music in one go? If this was a one-time screw-up, then this might fix the problem, since doing this manually does seem to fix the problem, though, as said in my previous post, I wouldn't do it now (manually) since I don't know the source of the problem and I wouldn't want all the effort to go in vain.
Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
Not that I know, somehow library assigned wrong Artist ID in Genre field to those files and only manual change works where MM correct ID and from that point all is OK.

Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
It seems like you're saying that, probably, if I do fix it manually that the problem shouldn't repeat itself -- that this was all a freak accident. Do I understand correctly? I really don't want to burn that time for nothing

Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
I'm having this issue as well, Windows 7 x64. Deleted the database and rescanned, and I thought it was fixed, but it's going it again. Any ideas?

Re: [MAJOR] - Incorrect Artist/Album Artist Classifications
Please, somebody, this really sucks.
