Re: MEDIAmonkey or just AUDIOmonkey ?...
Ah well, I didn't know it was coming for sure.
In that case I'll put my trust in the devs to make it so that the video part doesn't degrade any of the audio part. I do trust the MM devs to be capable of doing that, after all they have already proven to be experts at making excellent software.
I haven't seen it working to my satisfaction before in any other piece of software though, so forgive me if I remain a little skeptic.

Will my gold membership still be good with video version or will it be renamed and I'll have to pay more?
Re: MEDIAmonkey or just AUDIOmonkey ?...
I believe gold membership runs out after each major upgrade (ie 2->3) unless you get a lifetime licence.
Oh and Onweerwolf, I don't think anyone can blame you for being a short disbeliever. (I apologise...)

Great news on Video being supported in 4.x! When can we expect to see a beta build for users?

Re: MEDIAmonkey or just AUDIOmonkey ?...
It will likely be some time before a beta is released. One of the developers commented that an Alpha might turn up in a few months. It really depends on how well development goes. I believe at the time of his statement, he noted that there hadn't been much new functionality or such implemented and as such, there wasn't much to test at the time. So it's coming, it'll just take time.

I love how MediaMonkey is working with music files - simply the best out there.
I love how Extreme Movie Manager is working with movie files - simply the best out there. Very similar to how MediaMonkey is working with music files and supports user scrips for "tagging" movie files in the database.
If you could integrate those two outstanding organizers in one product with 2 separate databases - it would be second to none for organizing mediafiles on your computer.
For heavens sake, don't integrate a video player in this world champion media organizer. A simple PLAY button would be enough and should start your external system preferred video player for that filetype.
In my opinion there is more interesting things in this world, than things starting with an "i". If users are willing to pay overprice for these overhyped mediocre products, they could also affort to pay for a good working plug-in to syncronize with those overprotected products. There is already too much focus on this subject and take away manpower instead of focusing on more important development.
MediaMonkey should continue to support serious organizers and again please don't integrate an internal videoplayer, it should be external and please don't make this to a commercial crapware media store product a la iTunes.

Re: MEDIAmonkey or just AUDIOmonkey ?...
My only concern is that when they release the new version of Mediamonkey, and it does have video support, that when they create the upgraded Last.FM scobbler, that they'll make an exception in the coding to screen out video files. (ie, ignores file extensions, avi, wmv, mkv, ogm, mpg, mpeg, mov, etc)
I've got some concerns about the Video aspect too. Spent many frustrating hours trying to get the Mediacenter apps, like Jriver, Mediaportal, etc configured, and half the time it crashes anyway. Just hopes Mediamonkey will be careful to implement those features right to avoid a similar path.

It'd already be quite easy to do that using the "Exclude filters" feature.Werewolfhero wrote:My only concern is that when they release the new version of Mediamonkey, and it does have video support, that when they create the upgraded Last.FM scobbler, that they'll make an exception in the coding to screen out video files. Re: MEDIAmonkey or just AUDIOmonkey ?...
I'll be honest, I have NO desire for video within mediamonkey. I play any videos I have through VLC and do not put any videos on my iphone. That being said I see no reason to not incorporate it AS LONG AS it's not detrimental to the program and doesn't clog up the gui with needless crap for those of us that don't want it. I do like the idea of being able to select not to install the video portion at all.
Re: MEDIAmonkey or just AUDIOmonkey ?...
Video support will be plugin based like other things in MM, so you will be able to strip Video support plugins and leave MM as it was before. (At least from what I see now)

In the criteria of a filter you can set what file types you wish to exclude.

Re: MEDIAmonkey or just AUDIOmonkey ?...
I am indifferent about playing my video in MM, but I would love to be able to organize it with MM. As it stands now, with an old plug-in and/or scripts you can sorta organize video files, but a few builds back, I started having issues with the DB not remembering the changes I made, to all kinds of miles (mkv, mov, avi, etc).
I am all for video DB support because I have more than 5k movies, TV shows and other videos I have collected or converted over many years of my current system, which I run to my TV and would love to have just one program to do that with.

I like Meedios for video management/TV playback: http://www.meedios.com/ It's one of the most versatile programs, but unfortunately in alpha and a bit of work.
