Problems reading tags from different computers

Post by paradroid »

Hi,

I store my mp3's on a single HD in my desktop computer. The HD is shared in my local network and I access my songs with mediamonkey from my laptop. (MM Gold). I installed MM standard on my desktop computer to organize the songs and tag them correctly. Then I use MM to scan the shares for new/changed tracks. Some mp3's show correct tags on my desktop, but on my laptop the tags are different/missing. This does not happen to all files but only to certain albums. If I check the files via explorer, all tags are set correctly. I use MM 2.4.1.874. Settings in both installations are the same.

Any hints ?

Cu

Sounds like you are not syncing your library with the actual tags in the files.

Hmm,

I did not change any settings. Do you have an idea, what I must change ?

When you change the tags, you are changing the files themselves. In MM you either need to rescan (to load the files back into MMs library) or if you have Gold you can use File Monitor to spot the changes as they are made and update the library. Either way, the library is separate from the files, so you must synchronise them after making external changes (changes to the tags not made in the MM you are looking at them in).

Keep in mind though, that file monitor cannot actually monitor network drives.... (must be a windows problem). So, you will have to use add/rescan to update changes made by another computer on a network drive...

If you want to sync your files, highlight them and hit Ctrl+S

If you want this to be automatic:
Tools > Options
Library
Tags & Playlists

Tick the box Update tags when editing properties

Beware, this will momentarily pause play of a currently playing song if you sync automatically and edit the currently playing file.

Hi, this option is already set in my options dialog. If I look at the properties of the mp3 files with the explorer (from my notebook), the tags are all correct ! Only MM does not read them correctly.

If you are sure you have properly synced, then you might need to be a bit more specific about the inaccuracies. Maybe some screen shots might help.

Ok,

here are some screenshots :

Mediamonkey on my "fileserver" showing correct properties of a song

Properties of the same song (Laptop accessing shared folder)

http://bilder.kirchmann.org/d/680-1/mm_laptop.gif

Properties of the same song, shown in windows explorer on my laptop :

So, MM on fileserver and explorer on laptop show the right properties and tags. MM on the laptop does not seem to recognize them

Well if you scanned the tags and have all the settings saying to overwrite the database with the tags then I have no idea why this is not working. I can only suggest it is a network name problem. As in, MM doesn't like "\\Server\..." - maybe try mapping a network drive and then scanning this.

Maybe try clear your library and rescanning from scratch. Obviously only do this if you tags are all correct.
