Creative Zen Touch Synching
with alpha 3, my zen touch works mostly well. however, it seems it always deletes all previous data (it shows 'Removing old content' for around 30 min.). i currently use several play lists to which i've added everything i want synced. if my understanding is correct, the zen should only remove content if i've deleted something from those lists.
nonetheless, it's great to have mm working with my zen. no move of the days when wmp was considered the good option.

Zen Xtra sync prob
You're right it's great to have the Monkey working with the Zen, but one problem is that when I sync a playlist from the Monkey to the Zen, the playlist won't be there, only the music. So if it isn't there I can't play the music with the order that I had in the playlist. Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanx.
Thanx.

Re: Zen Xtra sync prob
As far as I can tell, both Zen and Jukebox players won't work as I'd hope in 2.5. A (yet undeveloped) third party plug-in might allow playlist synchronization but I don't expect to see that anytime soon. A firmware upgrade by Creative would be the answer, but that is even less likely.Maglor wrote:Am I doing something wrong here?

Zen palylist sync
Wich one? I have the last one.jiri wrote:The problem with uploading playlist to Zen appeared in older firmware, if you upgrade to the latest it should work fine.

new firmware
just checked creative's website. as of yesterday, oct 28, there is a new firmware, 2.10.05. says it upgrades for better play-for-sure compatibility. am downloading it now: we'll see.
Re: new firmware
I'm trying to find that new firmware for download at the creative site and jsut can't find it... are you sure it is to the Zen Xtra???mitkase wrote:just checked creative's website. as of yesterday, oct 28, there is a new firmware, 2.10.05. says it upgrades for better play-for-sure compatibility. am downloading it now: we'll see.

Thanx insomniac. If the Monkey worked with the playlists it would be perfect.Insomniac wrote:This thread is for the Zen Touch, not Xtra.
The Xtra firmware doesn't come out until the end of the year.
I don't bother with playlists, so how it's working now for me is just fine. (I have an Xtra too.)
have you ever had a problem with the headphone jack on your creative mp3 players? how's the sound on the Touch? better than Xtra?

Creative Zen Touch Test Results
Summary of Zen Touch Findings (stock firmware) and MM 2.5.1.908:
1) Playlists don't synchronize (i.e. the contents synch to the device, but the playlist itself doesn't). Windows Media Player doesn't sync playlists with the Zen Touch either, but the Nomad Explorer bundled with the device, does through some sort of custom functionality (not MTP). Note: MM will be relying on MTP for playlist synchronization (see below) and will not attempt to replicate Nomad Explorer's implementation.
2) Attempts to delete tracks from the device fail from within MediaMonkey. These attempts succeed in Windows Explorer or Nomad Explorer.
3) Copy functionality doesn't work in MediaMonkey (or any other application). MM's context entry should be desiabled in this scenario.
The hardware I'm using is borrowed and thus I'm unable to test with the new firmware, however, according to Creative's web site, the new firmware improves their MTP implementation and will allow playlists to be synced with WMP, and thus it should solve the playlist problem with MM. I also suspect that it will resolve the Delete bug (issue 2 above), since other creative devices with new firmware don't seem to exhibit the problem. The firmware is posted at: http://us.creative.com/support/download ... &details=1
Can anyone confirm that playlists synch correctly with this?

Re: Creative Zen Touch Test Results
i have the new firmware loaded, yet #2 still stands: the touch hangs when trying to... i think maybe mm is trying to delete the music that came with the zen. as far as i know that's impossible.
also. the conversions don't seem to work. mm shows that tracks are being converted, then copied. and it seems to take some time to do so, yet i can't seem to find the new tracks on the device anywhere.
i haven't tried syncing playlist. but will next time to see what happens.

re-sync criteria
alpha 5 seems to have cleared most problems.-- i love it! the only thing i've run across a number of files that are always deleted and resynced. (i do have the delete files not in sync list checked). this even happens if i re-sync immediately after a sync, with no changes to anything.
the best i've been able to figure for these files is that i changed some of the tags after the initial sync...
also, i still get random, unable to decode file XYZ.mp3 errors with songs that are otherwise fine. this does not reproduce if re-syncing with no changes.
