Re: Latest iPods support

Post by jiri »

We certainly try to support all the models. The current status is:

1. iPod Nano 6G - doesn't work yet due to some technical difficulties, we look into them. It's hard to estimate the time when it will be fixed, it depends on how many obstacles from Apple we find - I hope that it would be resolved in 1-2 weeks.

2. iPod Touch 4G - I don't have one for testing yet, but the reports above indicate, that there might be some problem in the beta support we released, we'll have to find out more.

3. All other devices should work fine.

Actually the beta just works fine as a beta.

Environment:

MM 3.2.2 installed using beta .dll
iTunes 10 installed

windows 7 ultimate 64bit
ipod touch 4g iOS 4.1

Workflow:

- Close itunes
- Sync using Mediamonkey
- close Mediamonkey
- open itunes (if I wont do this, it will not display the music in the device)
- check wait until itunes displays your playlist synced from MM (just do nothing and quit)
- close itunes or leave it
- check your ipod touch 4g and you can now see your music.

there you have it.

My experiance is similar to Vatch so have copied his post and modified in blue text
i.e.

MM 3.2.2 installed using beta .dll
iTunes 10 installed
Vista 32bit OS
ipod touch 3g 64GB iOS 4.1

Workflow:
- Close itunes (if open)
- Sync using Mediamonkey
- close Mediamonkey
- open itunes (if you dont do this, the itouch will not display all of the music in the device properly and your album artwork will be incorrect)
- wait until itunes displays your playlist synced from MM (just do nothing and quit) or alternatively Sync your Apps to achieve the same result
- close itunes or leave it
- check your ipod touch 3g and you can now see your music (when you first access your music you may have to wait for a db regen to complete).

I have experienced most of the issues described by the other users, but if you start with a clean music db and always follow the above procedure so that iTunes triggers a regen. of the db after the MM sync, no problems at all.

I'm also doing it this way, works fine except for the autoconversion of flacs to mp3. I manually have select every song in flac and sync it otherwise MM crashes. Mp3 files work fine with an autosync.

In order to find out why it's necessary to use iTunes after MM sync with iPod Touch 4G, could anybody e-mail me the content of iPod's /iTunes_Control folder after synchronization of just 1 track by iTunes, please? There are probably several tools to access its filesystem, I use T-PoT plug-in for TotalCommander.

I'd just like to find out what exactly is going wrong.

Thanks,
Jiri

Hi have the new Ipod running OS4.1 and tried to synch using the beta driver. I followed the directions and was able to synch with MM but when I ran I tunes it failed to synch returning error ipod error 13019. I looked up this error found this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2830 but i was unable to resolve the issue since the new added play list was not in my Itune library. I had to give up using MM and exported the MM play list and imported in itunes and then used synch.
Please let me know if we can resolve this problem I hate going back to Itune after many years of using MM

Hi Jiri,

I will email you a few dumps of that directory, starting with a full reset of the iTouch and then going through several sync iterations. Note that my iTouch is a 3g not a 4g, but it has the same OS (4.01) and the issues seem to be the same. Apart from the message immediately before this one - he seems to be mixing and matching Music libraries/playlists in iTunes and MM which I have always avoided like the plague. i.e. I never Sync music from iTunes - just Apps etc.

Well, heres a twist - I erased all 56GB of the music from my iTouch so I could copy that folder for Jiri (before and after a sync), but when looking at the folder that Jiri asked for with Total Commander I noticed it had about 1.5GB of album art in it that had not been deleted for some reason, and there was also about 30MB of files in what looked like a backup subdirectory...

1. So in for a penny in for a pound - I decided I should start from a complete system Restore.
2. When finally done I closed iTunes and opened MM
3. Synced a couple of tracks. Exited MM and looked at result on iTouch and everything looked fine (so no need to connect to iTunes). Took the snapshot that Jiri asked for but the sync seemed to have worked fine so maybe a bit pointless.
4. Opened MM again and synced 300 more tracks. Exited MM and looked at result on iTouch, this time I seen a full library build occur (have only seen that happen once before and it did not seem to complete), and lo and behold once the library build had completed all tracks and album art appeared fine. So no need to connect to iTunes this time either.
5. Out of curiosity I opened iTunes and noticed an immediate but very quick sync occur as soon as it detected the iTouch (took just a couple of seconds) - never noticed that before either, but maybe it did and I just haven't noticed it. Closed iTunes and checked my music on the iTouch and still all good (no auto library rebuild occurred, which used to always be the case)
6. Opened MM again selected approx another 9000 tracks and deselected half of those already on the iTouch then synced. When it finally completed, closed MM, opened Music on iTouch, waited for the library rebuild, and when completed checked all album art etc and all appeared present and correct.
7. Repeated step 5 and observed same results.

So the iTouch system Restore via iTunes in conjunction with the beta dll seems to have cleared away whatever was causing my previous issues and I no longer need to connect to iTunes to trigger a rebuild of the music library.

BTW all of the above was with the current production build of MM + the beta dll - Have not tried the new beta of MM yet.

New Release
Just wanted to say that my Nano 6G worked with the new Beta 3.2.3 released yesterday.
Thanks!

The new Beta release works great - only problem is that the very latest update to iTunes 10 (out yesterday I think) appears to nerf it - after installing the update my iTouch is no longer recognised by MM.

What the heck? Are they actively trying to stop MM from working with nanos?

Anyway, I'm in, getting my nano tomorrow. Thanks guys!

Still not working for me. Can someone post the exact steps and order in which to take them? MM appears to sync to the 6G iPod, and the iPod itself shows it is syncs, but nothing is there when I go to listen.
