[fixed] 1353: Cannot save playback rules

Post by tonydl »

Edit: copy of my last post with new information on this bug:

It seems to be a problem with the language - but it's very strange.
First I noticed that I can't set ANY playback rules (Tools -> Options -> Playback Rules) - for music, audiobooks, podcasts, ... they're all going to reset after a restart of MM.

Then I changed the mediamonkey language to German - and now I can save these settings!!
After changing the language back to English I cannot change them!

It's very curious - and it was a lucky shot to discover this coherence.
But I am pretty sure that's the problem - I can reproduce it any time (German: working, English: not working)

I am living in Germany, but my Windows installation is English (Win7 x64). I made a fresh Mediamonkey installation (and deleted all folders in AppData before).
Installation language was English.

I am using the following Windows "Region and Language" settings - I don't know if these settings are causing the bug but don't have another idea:
'Formats'-Tab: "German (Germany)"
'Location'-Tab: "United States"
'Keyboards and Languages'-Tab: Change keyboards... -> "German (Germany) - German"

Can anyone reproduce this?

--------- the following lines are my original post -------------

I set the "play now action" for audiobooks (Options - Player - Playbackrules - Audiobook) to "Clear tracks & play selected only".
This works - but after a Mediamonkey restart this setting isnt saved and is back on the default option "clear tracks & play selected + subsequent".

To stop the subsequent tracks loading to my playlist every time I have to change this setting after each mediamonkey restart.

Edit: Changed to 1346 - the bug still exists
Edit: Changed to 1348 - the bug still exists
Edit: Changed to 1353 - with new information
Edit: [fixed]

I can't reproduce, I've changed it for all Collections and it was remembered. Are other settings also lost on restart? Does the MediaMonkey.exe process disappear in the Task Manager when you close MediaMonkey?

MM does disapper in the task manager and as far as I can tell this is the only setting which gets lost. gonna try to investigate it further..

I were able to reproduce this with a 1346 clean install on a fresh windows system....

My steps:
  • Install MediaMonkey_4.0.0.1346_Debug.exe
  • Open Mediamonkey
  • Tools - Options - Playback Rules (in the Player options)
  • in the list on the right click on Audiobook
  • the default option is: "clear tracks & play selected + subsequent"
  • change it to: "Clear tracks & play selected only"
  • Close the option dialog
  • close Mediamonkey
  • reopen Mediamonkey
  • go back to the options pane - the setting now changed back to "clear tracks & play selected + subsequent"

I can't confirm as changing the setting is remembered here, but I no longer had the default settings.

Hm, what can I do now?
I installed Mediamonkey fresh at a friends brand new laptop and had the same error. Just imported some mp3s and flagged them as audiobook.
Win7 english x64.

That's something different. Any file with book in the Genre will be set as Audiobook.

Yes I know that. That's how I tagged my files in my music collection - but for testing purpose it doesn't matter.

I don't need to import any files at all - just changing this one field - clicking okay - rechecking it's changed - restarting mediamonkey - rechecking -> it changed back to subsequent.

It's not fixed in 1348 either - could anyone else please test this if Lowlander can't reproduce this?

Windows 7 x64 English here. I'm going to check this on another OS (Win XP hopefully) as soon as I can get my hands on a fellow students netbook.

Edit:
Is there any debug switch or logfile or something like that on Mediamonkey? If not I could give a dev access to my PC via Teamviewer if that helps?

What field are you modifying? What does change back to subsequent mean?

WIth change back to subsequent I meant that the value in the play now field changed back from "Clear tracks & play selected only" to "clear tracks & play selected + subsequent" like I described in my first post.

I attached a screenshot which setting I am referring to. After changing this field to another value and restarting MM it will change back to the initial setting.

If you still cannot reproduce this I'll try to get the debug log tomorrow.

No, that is not something I can reproduce for several versions now. I did a clean install of 1348 and it remembered this setting.

Okay, I submittet a support ticket and attached a debug log. Hope someone can reproduce/resolve this issue.
Btw: Starting MM with administrator rights won't help.

*bump*

I think I narrowed it down a lot more - can anyone help? :(

I'd like to use MM in English - but need to leave it in German to use the Playback rules...

No answer here and no answer in my support ticket - I am quite disappointed :(
