Hi all
I've just installed a QNAP TurboNAS box and copied all my music files from my desktop PC to the NAS storage unit.
I now want to point my MM DB to the new location, but without losing all my play history and playlists.
I also want to move from a fixed drive letter location (D:\Music\MusicFolders) to a logical folder location (\\NASBox\MultimediaShare\Music\MusicFolders) - my directory structure is exactly the same, its just the location that's changed - I don't want to have to rely on Windows always providing the same drive letter to the share.
My DB is not moving - I want it to stay on the desktop PC and I'm the only person who uses MM, so no worries about sharing the DB or music.
Is there a way to do this? Easily? I have thousands of CD's in this folder structure and 3 years of play history that I really don't want to lose.
Thanks
Hank

In those cases you should use MediaMonkey to move the files: http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/f ... enames.htm
If you already did you can try File > Locate Moved/Missing Tracks and hope it works: http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/f ... ibrary.htm

Re: Moved Music Files to NAS
I dont think this method is going to work for me, because of the way I've named my folders. Beneath the Music folder I have a folder for each artist, based on "last name, first name" so they are easy to find in the folder structure. But the mp3 tag has the artist name in the usual "first name <space> last name" format.Lowlander wrote:In those cases you should use MediaMonkey to move the files: http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/f ... enames.htm
This sounds a bit hit and miss and with 220,000 tracks, sounds like it will be a long process too.Lowlander wrote:If you already did you can try File > Locate Moved/Missing Tracks and hope it works: http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/f ... ibrary.htm
However, if it's my only option I'll give it a go.
Thanks

You can use the current folder/filenames in Auto-Organize Files with masks like <Path>, <Folder> and <Filename>: http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/f ... ormats.htm
For example when moving from a local disc \\NASName\<Path> might do the trick.

Wow - I'd not realised those paramaters were there - I'd looked for something like them in the >> list at the end of the data entry field but they weren't in it.
After some testing and a couple of false starts, they are moving across nicely now.
Thanks very much
