Personally, I don't use things like play counts and ratings. My biggest problem is the inconsistency in connecting to the phone when it plugs in. Unlike WinMo phones, Android phones don't "automount/dismount" as USB devices (they can't: the OS requires exclusive access to the mounting point to the ROM and the SD, from what I can tell [I am not a *nix guru].) If you mount it as a drive, the MM doesn't look at the phone as a media player but as a drive so you have to make sure that your library DOESN'T include the USB device. A bit confusing? It can be.

If someone could write a simple guide to connecting an android phone for everyone, that would help. I have figured it out...but I forget sometimes. For example, I have to remember to turn off my WiFi because I also connect to my PC via WiFi (now that would also be a neat feature!) with other programs and this can confuse the phone and the PC (I think it has to do with the USB stack or something like that.)

I agree...I'm using MM3.X Gold and have MM syncing with my Motorola Droid 2. When I plug in the phone it comes up in MM as a "drive" mine is "L". I went to MM and configured playlists for "L" just like I do with my IPOD and Walkman. Hit sync and now my selected playlists are in my music library. Actually my library looks pretty much the same as with the IPOD... Album, Artist, Song, Playlist, genre, etc. I don't know which music App I'm using and can't find any identification but the App shows as Music with a target like symbol...grey center, black ring with orange outer ring. I'm using Verizon, the music App probably came preloaded with my phone.

I'm going to try to Sync my daughters HTC Incredible soon. Follow up note-Couldn't make it work in the 5 minutes I had to try. The HTC wanted to charge and didn't show as a drive in MM. Looks like I will need to make some config changes to the phone.

Hope this helps, wish I could identify my Music App....it's music only, have another for Radio.

To get around the USB issues with sometimes mounting as drives sometimes only charging... You can do it wirelessly. On the android device install Samba Filesharing App (Available from the market - and ROOT required). Then mount the music folder of your device on your PC and use the d_USBMass1.dll plug in to connect to the share. Then you can sync to it. So far has worked for me. But it will drain your battery quickly so I do it as I go to bed when the phone is charging then turn off the Samba share in the morning before unplugging it. Not the best solution but like I already said it's working for me.

I think it is a huge mistake not to devel op a full MM android app. It would have been a much better use of resources than adding video IMO.

Generally media Monkey users and Android users have the same mindset and there is still nothing available for Android exc ept the defauly player, which is pretty decent, but is missing s ome basic functionality like sort by rating ....

All of the other players aren't even close to having decent fuctionality including WinAmp and PowerAmp.

There is a gap to fill that media Monkey could easliy be the very best of, if it could be ported to Android (but this may not be easy).

Android would also be a portal to get more exposure for the PC version of MM...... as long as it is a almost full player, not like the crippled versions other devs are releasing.

What is holding MM back is that Android apps don't sell for much and the Market takes a big slice, but I would pay 10$ for a MM player that could sort and seearch by all MM fields like on my PC. I already paid almost that for PowerAmp, but found it fairly useless and not any better than the vanilla player (the equalizer sounds terrible)

Count me in as a big vote for a full featured MM android player app. I'm not sure why the devs aren't jumping in on this? I'm not a coder, so maybe it's just a much bigger challenge then it appears to those of us who are just advocates and users. But it would seem a no-brainer way of extending the longevity and relativity of MM. Until now, MM has had a limited, and decaying market for their software. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it, but it's a niche product for enthusiasts and it faces an almost certain fate so long as it is going to be forced to take on itunes to survive.

Unlike the PC, the android platform is:
-currently devoid of itunes
-currently devoid of any decent player
-the fastest growing platform going with huge upside
-the last bastion of non-itunes opportunity

Even at only $10 (and I'd personally pay $15-$20), there would seem to be so much more revenue and growth potential then what is possible with the current PC software market. It could turn MM from an awesome, but practically unknown and very, very niche software, to the standard player for android devices by the millions. You see it everywhere in the tech news; the smartphone is the only thing that matters it seems, and everyone wants a piece of the action. My 2 cents.

tjdzine is so right. For all the reasons he mentions and many more, an Android MM app is a complete no-brainer. I'd write a reply, but I already essentially did here:

MM devs, what are you waiting for? You have something that doesn't come up very often in tech: the perfect confluence of factors - a platform that's exploding, a horde of ravenous users, and a huge, yawning niche that has NOT yet been filled by a "killer app". Do you just not like money, or do you prefer MM to remain a high-quality but little-known PC app, buried somewhere in the shareware results, known only to geeks who read software reviews?

Well that is not an issue on winamp. I can plug in the phone and it always knows its a media device and what to do with it.

Just for your info.

PlayerPro (android market) CAN SYNC RATINGS and PLAYCOUNTS with MM and Winamp. you do need to copy a file across but its very fast and the Player Pro people are making an auto sync update.

Android phones don't "automount/dismount"
They can, it just needs the app to support it.

You don't need to copy anything. It syncs completely automatically. It's glorious. FINALLY.

Just do the following via my post here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 45#p306945

Bump for an Android app!
I won't be using MediaMonkey for video as there are better tools out there... MM should concentrate on where it excels... MUSIC!

Android is now bigger than IOS and is poised to basically become the windows of the mobile world... we need an Android app or someone else will come along and steal my business!
