1402: Weird iPod album art issue [#8167]
Unsure if this is an iPod issue or a MM issue, but here goes:
I added a CD to my MM library today, and synced it over to the iPod. I noticed that the art was not appearing properly, so I did my usual trick of rebuilding the device database. When viewing the art on the iPod in MM, all of it looks fine. However, all of the art is corrupted when viewed on the iPod itself. To see what I mean, here is a short clip (12 sec.) of me browsing via cover flow on the iPod:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34421522/ipod%2 ... rtwork.MOV
I tried manually deleting the art via Windows Explorer, then rebuilding. Also tried resetting the iPod. And finally, deleting a single album and resyncing. Nothing worked.
I have synced with previous versions of the beta without problems, but this is the first time that I have (a) added music to the iPod and (b) rebuilt the device db.

What iPod version and firmware do you use? Does it work well when you try MM3?
Thanks,
Jiri

Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
The iPod is a 160 GB Classic, and the firmware is 2.0.1
I am at work now so can't check MM3, but could do when I get home.
I installed the beta on top of MM3 -- can/should I just install MM3 back on top of the beta?
Thanks!
Jeff

Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
Some new info: I double verified that, when browsing the iPod in MM the art displays correctly. It does. I then opened iTunes and verified that the art was ok when browsing the iPod. Again, it was. I then ripped a CD using iTunes; this CD was not currently on my iPod. I synced it over, ejected, and played the new content. The art displayed fine. That suggests that this is not a coincidental problem with the iPods display. Also, I realized while doing this that approximately 10% of the small versions that appear along side album names display correctly. When I try to play one of those albums though, the larger version is messed up as reflected in the video clip I posted earlier.

Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
I had some art issues on my iPhone when I synced with MM4 but the previous sync was done with MM3. (ie. right after upgrade). I decided to start fresh by clearing the whole thing and resyncing with MM4: everything has been peachy since then.JeffV64 wrote:I installed the beta on top of MM3 -- can/should I just install MM3 back on top of the beta?

Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
I'm willing to start from scratch nohitter, but the fact that removing and resyncing doesn't help worries me.
I installed MM3 in a new folder, connected the iPod, and rebuilt the database. After disconnecting the art appeared fine. So then I got into MM4, connected the iPod, and rebuilt the database. Back to the old problem. So it looks to me like a MM4 problem. Is it time for a debug? I might be able to do that in the morning.

Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
I don't think the issue is resolved.
I've synced music to my ipod with the latest version (1404) and some songs album art is disoriented while others are just blank. Then there are many that have no problem at all.
I have Ipod nano 8 GB, latest firmware.

Have you cleaned up the device before testing?

Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
I am experiencing a similar problem with version 1404 and my iphone (3g). I added an mp3 album into my library and tagged each song with album art...I then sent the album to my iphone (which was empty at the time) and the album art was solid "black"...not blank, but black. I removed the album and added it to my iphone again (repeated three times) with the same result. I then decided to add another mp3 album with it's album art tagged...to my iphone, but this album was added and tagged into my library several beta's ago...the album art appeared normal on my iphone. I then removed the album art from the tags (on the second album...), started from scratch and added the art to the tags again with 1404....sync'd to the iphone and the art was "black"....I update beta's frequently and haven't added an album to my iphone for a few weeks, so I'm not sure with which beta the issue started (for me). Thanks!

Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
My issue seems to be fixed in 1405. Thanks!
Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
Mikehayman,
Can you confirm whether the Album Art / Sync issue is resolved in 1407 for you.
I can't replicate the issue you describe.
Thanks.

Re: 1402: Weird iPod album art issue
1408 the art issue is back. I thought it was fixed with 06 or 07 but I am getting it now with 1408, some songs have distorted art on iPod.
