Installing new builds deletes settings
Installing new builds deletes settings like e.g.:
Which columns are shown, which order they are, collection option-criteria (right click on Music; Podcast; Audiobook in Media Tree). And probably some more.

Really... Good for you. For the last 5 installs, I had always to remove 4-5 columns (e.g. Path).
And for sure - collection option-criteria (right click on Music; Podcast; Audiobook in Media Tree). I know that because I split my audio-books and music (in both categories criteria were input) by genre and now it is set again to default settings.

Re: Installing new builds deletes settings
I have not had an issue with this either. Can you specify what view, which node/collection this is a problem with? Any other details? Have you tried to clear the registry and reinstall, see if the problem persists? This was an issue in much older builds and I think you needed to clear your settings by uninstall/reinstall after the issue was fixed to really resolve the problem.qazwsxedcrfvg wrote:Really... Re: Installing new builds deletes settings
I have this issue too. The following colums keep reappearing: path, filename, volume number, bit value, filesize.
Also, a number of colums that we want to see, disappear and have to be re-selected.
It does not only happen with a new build. I'm sure it happened today, whereas we are running 1426 for a couple of days.
Regards, Willy

qazw and willydvs,
Can you tell me some more about your installations? This issue has been reported on a couple of occasions, but we've never been able to get to the bottom of it.
1) What OS are you using
2) Is this an upgrade of a previous version of MM (i.e. previous to MM4)? If yes, what versions had you installed previously?
3) Is it a portable installation of MM?
4) Are you running skinned or unskinned?
5) Did you install MM for all users? or for the current user?
6) Are you running as a user with admin rights?
Note: here's a bug with related / non-reproducible issues: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8096
and a related one that's been fixed: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8098
Thanks for your help and patience.

Re: Installing new builds deletes settings
Rusty,
1) We have MM installed on 3 PC's (XP + Windows 7), the library is on a NAS.
2) We had MM3 before, but I've uninstalled MM3 on all PC's before I installed MM4
3) Not portable
4) We use Pulse and Glided (not the same skin on all PC's), the issue appears with both skins
5) On all PC's for all users
6) I think all the userids we use for MM actually have admin rights
Additionally:
1) I also had the issue with the custom fields, I renamed the fields manually but I see now that the names are gone again!
2) Indeed the mediatree also changes by itself every now and then.
3) NOTE: I noticed that one of the PC's still had 1424. Now all PC's are using 1426. Will let you know if this influences the behavior. This installation did NOT spoil the settings by the way!
Let me know if you need additional information, or if you want me to try something.

qazw and willydvs,
We've made some changes that'll be included in build 1430 that should resolve the lost column settings. We hope to have it ready for Friday.
Thanks.

Re: Installing new builds deletes settings
1430 made a mess of my column settings. Got things like Extension as first column where it should be somewhere closer to last. And Title is last which has been a common theme throughout the beta builds.

It seems that the following occurs:
1) Upgrade install opens new tab with web page
2) Use this new tab to navigate somewhere in the Library
3) Close your old tab from previous build
4) Columns are reorganized
Added as: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8368

Lowlander,
Would you happen to have a copy of the DB that's upgraded incorrectly?
Also, once you fix the columns, does everything work as expected?
Thanks.

The problem only seems to occur on install. The tab you're using takes the Column settings from the tab you're closing. So to see this you need to have tabs with different column settings (ie different Collections).

Ahh.. I think I understand--the issue can even occur just when switching tabs with different views.
It sounds like it might be the same as issue 5) at http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view. ... 260#c27653.
Hopefully it'll be fixed in 1432.
