Volume set to zero at exit and re-boot [#8456]

Post by Edgar »

The last 3 or 4 versions, when I exit MM4 (I always stop playing before exiting) then shut the computer off, the next time I start MM the volume has been set to zero (I usually have it at 17). This does not seem to happen if I shut MM down and restart it without a re-boot.

Win7 64-bit, non-skinned, everything set at default for MM.

Hi Edgar,

There are a few places where the volume can be controlled:
1) The MediaMonkey volume slider. You'll see this setting in the mediamonkey.ini file.
2) The Windows volume sliders. In Windows 7: right-click on the speaker and enable the mixer. You'll see:
a) 1 slider for the speakers (global volume control)
b) 1 slider for MediaMonkey.

To figure out what's happening it would be interesting to know:
- which output plugin you're using (tools > Options > Player > output plugin)
- whether any of the above volume sliders change when you just close MM / restart MM
- which of the above volume sliders change when you reboot

Note: a possibly related issue was reported at (checkout how skype triggers changes to the volume of apps other than skype):
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ilit=skype

Thanks.

Hi there,

I'm having the same issue in version 1435. Every time I restart mediamonkey the volume is set to zero.
In response to rusty:
2)In the Windows volume sliders, System volume is as normal (80%) and Mediamonkey is zero.
1) In the Mediamonkey.ini file is the following information:

[Player]
OutputPlugin=out_WASAPI.dll
Volume=0.800000011920929
PlayerUnmutedVolume=0

I tried setting Volume = 1, but it did nothing. Any solutions would be appreciated.

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with a Realtek audio card and spdif output.

Cheers,

Zac

Edgar,
Can you confirm whether you're also using the wasapi output plugin ? Is a PC restart required--or does restarting MM also trigger the problem?

Edgar, cazzac,
Can you please send 2 debug logs of?
1) Of MM starting, playing at regular volume, and then closing
2) Of MM restarting, playing at 0 volume, and then closing

That should help us get to the bottom of this. Thanks.

Few more questions:
3) Does it somehow depend on PlayerUnmutedVolume and PlayerMute values in the ini file?
4) Where exactly is volume set to zero? If you start MM, the volume slider is at 0? Or is it the system volume or MM slider in Mixer?

Thanks,
Jiri

Hi Rusty,

I'm submitting a support ticket with the debug logs now (not sure if this is how you go about it, as I've never submitted a debug before). Support ticket: TXG-198730

Currently, in no situation does MediaMonkey start with volume at anything other than zero (in the application slider of the volume mixer), so I am submitting only one debug.

In response to jiri:
3) I tried editing the ini file mediamonkey.ini in the following section:
[Player]
OutputPlugin=out_WASAPI.dll
Volume=0 edited this value to 1 with no result
PlayerUnmutedVolume=0 edited this value to 1 with no result

I have attached my ini file to the debug report for your reference.

4) The mediamonkey internal volume slider seems to always start where it left off, so that's ok. The slider that is at zero is the mediamonkey application slider in the mixer (system volume is unchanged at ~80%)

That is also my setup, and I have been having the same problem when using WASAPI in exclusive mode.

Just as an FYI. I'm getting zero sound at all in exclusive mode, so using WASAPI without exclusive mode.

Exclusive Mode is the only way WASAPI will work for me.

Same thing happens to me. Running Asus Essence STX. Even when I increase the volume when I launch the program (before play). Then i double click on a audio file within MM4, it still drops the volume to zero.

This is reproducible for me when I load FLAC files, while mp3 and ogm doesn't suffer the same issue. I am using WASAPI Exclusive mode.
