Songs quit playing

Post by shealbi »

No matter how many songs I highlight, or which playlist I choose, after the 1st songs play, the next song appears in the player but doesn't play. In fact, I can't play any more songs until I restart the program. I have a registered copy.

Song quit playing

Post by rusty »

shealbi,

Do any error messages appear?

Does this occur with all file types? (CDs, MP3s, OGGs, etc.). If you're testing with CDs it's possible there's a CD driver problem.

Does the player appear to be playing the tracks, but they're silent? It's possible that the Windows mixer is somehow getting muted--double click the volume/speaker icon in the system tray and verify your sound settings (see the readme for further details on this).

Can you try using the MM 2.1 RC-2 (from the beta forum) and let me know if it solves the problem?
If not, can you generate a log using RC-2 (as described at: http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=341) ? It'll help us get to the bottom of this.

thx.

I have found this before in othere players the trouble with them was not the player but infact a badly recorded song.

as in the song was trimed to cut the silent part off the front and end of the song.

and the ends of the songs were not trimed correctly as in some of the sound was cut off.

i was able to fix this by converting the songs to wav's and going in to a wav edtior and fadeing in or out the songs and adding back in the 2 seconds of silence to the front and end of the file. then converting them back to the format of my wish.

that made the songs play properly. if it works with your problem i dont know but it is worth a shot.

as i have also found that the songs need to have the silent space on the end of them so some portable cdrom players and some car players can see the start and end of the songs.

also i found that if it is not on the song files that doing defraging the songs have a 99% chance of being messed up by the defragmenting.

good luck :D

I have tried several things including downloading the new version of media monkey, reinstalling, choosing a different list of mp3 songs...all to no avail. Media Monkey stops after the first song in the list. Never had the problem with the predecessor program Songs-db.
I must reboot the PC to get Media Monkey to play another song as well once it has stopped. I don't have a fast PC but a PIII with 256RAM and win98SE. Not running any other programs cept latest version of Macafee virus protection..which hasn't changed.

Shealbi,

Just to make certain that you have an absolutely clean installation, can you:
1) Uninstall MediaMonkey and any old copies of Songs-DB that you may have installed via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel
2) Delete the ../Program Files/MediaMonkey directory
3) Delete the ../Program Files/Songs-DB directory
note: steps 2 and 3 will delete your database and any plug-ins you may have added. If you want to retain them, just copy them to some temp directory
4) Re-install MediaMonkey 2.1, let it scan your drive, and try playing your files

If this works, then most likely there was a plug-in / incorrect configuration entry that was causing the problem. If not, then please e-mail me the debug log as described at: http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=341) and we'll try to track down the problem.
