Missing items in Media Tree

Post by tcapps@nildram.co.uk »

Since upgrading to MM 4.0.2, i have noticed items missing from the media tree. e.g. I have 10 alnbums (say) for an Artist, but only 2 are shown in the tree. Clicking on the ARtist sjpws all the tracks and albums, but the only way to get the items back (that I have found so far) is to remove the artist entrely form the LIbrary. Then trigger a re-scan, This shows the albums up in Albums, but not in Atists. Choose properties from one of these albums, and just click OK, then all thealbums re-appear OK.

As an aside, I have found that the Artist tree doesn't get updated when a new album is downloaded (at least not for ages).

Up until this version, MM has always worked flawlessly, so this seems to be a retrograde upgrade so far.

Is is easy to go back?

Thanks

Did you check the Classical Music Collection? See: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... _Rules/4.0

Yes (they were not classical). After following the steps I outlined, the albums were showing where I expected them.

Same story here. I'm running Vista & MM 4.0.2.1462.

A whole batch of albums aren't showing in the tree view (Album Artist node) but sure enough they're there if you drill down through My Computer. And they show up when sought by Artist name. But not by Location.

This may be related to the difficulty MM4 has monitoring directories and importing files. It's supposed to watch my Music folder, but it doesn't notice when files are deleted out from under it. And it won't import files if they've been imported before and removed.

I wish I could go back to MM3. But someone's going to have to invent a script to generate a compatible MM.DB file. I've made too many changes and added too many files.

I tried viewing the Bug Reports but I only know how to see my own, and I haven't submitted one. How does one view all bug reports?

Use the Collection > Location node to find files in the Library. The best Collection to use is the Entire Library Collection as it contains all the files in the Library whereas other Collections like Music contain a filtered set of files in the Library.

Hi, I found the very same problem, but here those albums that are not present in ENTIRE LIBRARY appear if I click on ARTIST ALBUM to sort (manually), then I have all the albums in order but in reverse alphabetical order, so I have to manually sort again to have a regular ascending order. A mess since MM3 worked flawlessly. When closing+relauching MM4 the same albums disappear again. Actually it seems that they are present in the tree but not sorted as it should. I manually searched in the tree and found a "missing album " by Antonio Carlos Jobim listed between
Annie Lennox and Arctic Monkeys (good sort) but the rest of Antonio Carlos Jobim's albums were miss sorted between
Aziza Mustafa and another (miss sorted) Arctic Monkeys album !

So automatic sorting is a mess. Manual sorting is ok and solves this but IT IS NOT REMEMBERED by MM4. So I have to dperform manual sort everytime I launch MM.....

I found that this issue is already fixed in build 1463 but I'm not sure ot's the same issue. Did you guys reported this as a bug already?

sorry but it's not remembered at all.

I'm not sorting by date.

I sort by Artist Album.

alphabetical sorting is lost if:

I perform a search
or I change n tree to some other view, like podcast
I exit and re launch MM4

I do have to click Artist Album column's header twice to have a regular alphabetical order from A to Z...

I still couldn't find any logic in the bizarre order I get when this happens.

Search bug was linked above. On 4.03.1463 I can switch to Podcast and back and sort order is remembered.

What do you mean with
but here those albums that are not present in ENTIRE LIBRARY appear
, where are those file then?

Yeah, alright, I'm sorry but I didn't make myself clear: Those albums ARE present in the "Entire Libray" listing, but located in a weird place in the list (bad sorting).
Example:
When I launch MM4 I have some albums by "Beck" located between "Bebo Valdez" and "Ben Webster". But noticed that that another album by Beck was missing, and I found it scrolling down the list, sorted between "Beatles" and "Bee Gees" !
If I click on the Artist Album twice, I do have a correct list/sort with ALL of the Beck albums alphabetically listed between "Bebo Valdez" and "Bee Gees".
This problem happens for several artists that have many albums in my library.
Thanks for your time, dd

I think there is a forum post on this with others experiencing this. Try editing one of the misplaced Albums and see if it shows up in the correct place after editing the tags (Open and OKing properties should be enough.

Weird enough, I tried what you suggested, I found a first misplaced album, just opened PROPERTIES and re-entered Album Artist from the scrolling list, and click OK.
Then the whole library was magically sorted correctly, exactly as if I just click on the header on Album Artist column. But then, when closing+relaunching MM, that sort was (again) lost, BUT that particular album was now in the right order, so this procedure was remembered for that manually edited album. Of course this is not a solution since hundreds of albums are misplaced, but I just tried some others to see if this was a recurrent behaviour and NO, I couldn't always reproduce this!!!

This works "sometimes" ie: I 've tried this for a dozen albums and , even if the "whole-library-sorting" happens every time I edit an album, when relaunching everything is lost, even that particular album's correct sorting. But for some other albums it works as described on the first one. Really weird.

For instance there are 2 albums by Antonio Carlos and one by Arctic Monkeys Jobim that are systematically placed at the end of the "A" right below Aziza Mustafa. There's nothing I can do to make MM remember the right placement for those, while other albums by those artists are sorted corretly and remembered.

I found other post related with this Sort or "Sort forgot" problems, some are reported as fixed (like 1367: MM forgets sort column in Art with Details [#7691]) but this particularly issue seems to be unsolved.

Thanks again

Start with using File > Maintain Library with complete optimization enabled. This clearly sounds like a DB corruption issue. Alternatively it could be related to this bug: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8599 where the Album Artist is showing a value, but as it was guessed it is not used when doing various operations in MM.

hi, I did that COMPLETE OPTIMIZATION many times, nothing happens. Is there a way to get rid of my DB and build it again?

The issue you mention happens as well, several albums that were correctly credited to the right Artist on Album Artist now are listed below the tree as Album Artist= Unknown, even if, when clicking on properties both fields are completed with the right name (AlbumArtist=Artist)

But those are not the albums that are badly sorted, i manually entered the ARTIST ALBUM on various of those "lost" albums and nothing changes, they are (after re launching app) incorrectly sorted.

thanks

I don't know the scope of the linked bug, so I don't know if starting with a clean DB will do any good.

What you could try is to move the DB (to have a backup of it) and then start MediaMonkey which will create a new DB and then File > Add/Rescan Files to add the files again. I do suggest you open a support ticket to offer your DB for analysis (include link to this thread for reference).
