Major issues with the newest version
I have been using MM for quite some time, but this latest release is terrible when it comes to syncing. All previous versions had no problem, but now when I try to sync my device (allowing MM to delete files on the device which are not in my sync list) the player tells me that there is not enough space available! In the end I have to go to Windows Explorer and delete the files manually, and then go back to MM (which still gives a reading that the device is full) and click yes to continue anyway when I get the error. Seriously, this is the worst. I am considering going back to iTunes. I don't have time to spend 2 hours just to update my music. The most frustrating fact is that I am a Gold member, so I paid for this pos! You guys need to get with the program, or you are going to loose a lot of loyal customers.
Someone needs to email me at XYZ, and provide some resolution to this problem!

Are you syncing more files than the device capacity?

Re: Major issues with the newest version
I found that after upgrading to MM4 from the latest MM3, all my devices (iPhone, iPod, and a couple of Sansa Clips) showed the same behaviour. MM acted like the files that were already on the device "weren't there", but they were taking up space, and you didn't have as much space to sync as you think. I ended up deleting every music folder off each device and auto-synced again. All is well with all four devices.
I know this is a pain in the neck, but you only have to do it once for each device and then you get to enjoy MM4.

Re: Major issues with the newest version
After upgrading to MM4 I noticed following problems:
Every time I sync, it wants a confirmation that file x and y have been modified in the device and if I allow to copy it over the fle on my computer. Both files x and y were not used on the device and every time it's about the same 2 files.
According the summarythe capacity of my ipod is 148.8 GB, but audio on it is 176.9 GB !!!

That's an indication of the amount of audio files set to be synced to the device.westi2002 wrote: but audio on it is 176.9 GB !!!

Re: Major issues with the newest version
cheers, as described in initial post the synching kinda sucks when there r 10 new songs to synch and the whole list ist copied instead grabbing the info what is on the device and whats not. i cant proof that all is copied (and converted) again, it just lasts a feeled eternity for 'only' 300 songs. (20 mins for 1.5 gb)
a autogenerated list while synch process indicating what should be there (synch playlist m3u which is transferred) and a quick scan on what is there (relative paths from that m3us) followed by a comparison and finally the synch process would solve that.
furthermore the supported format setup could be expanded / reworked.
examplewise my android audioplayer (deadbeef , on my gingerbread x8) is capable of playing back lots of formats that the monkey will convert, as i cant specify the format as supported. if i leave compatible formats blank all is synched as is. i need to specify some formats as wma and m4a aint supported.
to make it short, the input_plugin added formats could appear in the synch format setup screen as well. just to name some: spc, xm, mod, vgm...
would be great to see this improving.
im using build 1476 in portable mode
have fun

also sync the other way is not correct
after playing 74 songs on my ipod, only 23 of them had changed last played date in MM4

Re: Major issues with the newest version
Seriously, not a single mod response?! Here's the deal, MM4 doesn't interact with mod devices well AT ALL. I am wondering how hard it could possibly be to make the program do a hash comparison of files in the sync list (similar to de-nisting) and only add the necessary files not found on the initial sync library. I mean, that is from a guy who has zero programming knowledge here. The solutions are out there to fix this problem, all you have to do is find and apply them.

Really, I am not even going to entertain that question. Seriously, that is just assinign. Of course I am not trying to sync more than what my device holds! To make matters worse, I get to my flight, plug in my headphones, and poof, MM4 didn't even add any music to the library! It confirmed their having synced on the device, but there I was. Thankfully Jet Blue is not as incompetent as MM; they had XM for me to listen to. Any answers? How about just a simple apology for their inability to provide a worthy consumer product to loyal customers?! COME ON MM!!!

It's always nice when users attack other users trying to help out.
The fact that it shows more audio than device can hold and the strange way information is presented in this dialog has been discussed before:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... sync+audio
See:

As you can see Audio is way larger than Device Capacity as I've select way more files to be synced than the Device can hold. This doesn't mean files won't be synced though, but you'll see a warning about exceeding Device Capacity and be asked to continue or not. If you continue it will sync whatever it can.

MM will allow you to chose as much as you want to sync, it isn't going to think for you. If you have more chosen to sync than capacity, like Lowlander says, you will get a warning. Also, as I said in an earlier post, when I first tried to sync using MM4 it couldn't read my devices correctly and I kept getting the "not enought room on device" error. I deleted all music on each device and started over. Small price to pay to use the excellent Media Monkey.@ lowlander:

could u explain what u mean by correctly configuring the device? This is exactly what MM does, if you configure your device correctly.
i didnt see any further checkboxes , options to test. wiki wasnt really helpful and i dont really know what to try next.
all i want is to only synch what has to instead of all.
im using usbmass plugin for synching with following options enabled:

btw enabled spoiler tag wont be a bad thing

What you sync is set in the Auto-Sync Liste tab.

yeah (didnt take a screen of that tab as its not relevant).
so i got 1 autolist based on ratings to synch.
q is how to only synch the unsynched tracks instead of all again.

Re: Major issues with the newest version
That should already happen if you're always using Auto-Sync. When it doesn't happen it is often due to modifications to the files or because a manual sync was used.
Try resetting the device (if possible and not too much hassle) and make sure no files are on the device. Setup a small playlist of 10-20 tracks to Auto-Sync. Auto-Sync, disconnect, connect, Auto-Sync. If it recopies all files you should send in a debug log (in other words start running DBGview before this whole process to capture all steps).
