Artwork issue with v4 [#9315]

Post by Luuuc »

Hi,
Long time user, first time writer
I have been using MM for years largely because handling artwork has been a breeze.
However since I upgraded to v4 I find that my car stereo (which displays album art on the screen) no longer recognizes the artwork of any new MP3s I tag.
I was hoping that my update today from v4.0.2 to v4.0.3 might fix the problem, but I tried again and it remains.

To confirm the issue, I took my USB stick to my old computer, which still has v3 (free version) installed on it. I selected a track, opened Properties > Artwork and did a "Save As..." from the image. Then I did an Artwork "Remove" to wipe it from the tag. Finally I opened the saved .jpg image and used copy & paste to paste it back into the file in MM.
I took my USB stick out to the car and it worked fine.

I should note that I have always used the "Save image to tag (if possible)" option.
Note also that when I use MediaMonkey the artwork is still visible. It's only on the external device that it is not visible.

So I figure that the problem can only be either (1) an issue with v4, or (2) something in my settings. I'd love it to just be a setting but I can't think what could be wrong.

I have noticed that v4 has more Artwork options than v3 did. The "Image Filename" option used to default to "folder.jpg" but now it appears to deal in .thm files.
Does this setting actually make a difference to me seeing as I "save image to tag"? I would have thought not.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions then I'd love to hear them.
Thanks.

No, the .jpg vs .thm only has to do if you store multiple artwork as a link (not in the tag) in the same folder.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work in v4 vs v3, the tags should be written exactly the same way for mp3s in both versions.

Maybe try to send a sample file tagged in v3 vs the same file tagged in v4 to MM support (see support link at top of page), they should be able to determine if there's any difference.

I think i have the same issue.
Album art i tagged with MM is not visible in my Sonos system. I can see it normal in MM. When i use another tagging program like MP3tag there is no problem with Sonos.
So there must be some difference in the tagging.

That's a different issue, you should figure out what Sonos has a requirements for Art (embedded/external, certain filename, certain filetype, size restrictions, ect.) and make sure you tag the files according to those restrictions.

I am a long time MediaMonkey Gold Lifetime user and have been a Sonos user for the last 6 months. MediaMonkey and Sonos work well together. My experience with artwork for Sonos is

1. The album art file can be embedded in the digital music file, (if the file format supports embedded art), or placed in the same folder as your music.

2. The Sonos system supports JPG, BMP, GIF and PNG images up to 1024x1024 in size when embedding artwork into your audio tracks.

3. If the image is placed in the same folder it must be named folder.xxx, (xxx being the supported extension). Sonos supports JPG and GIF formats for folder.xxx artwork. Each album should be in its own folder and contain one image file.

4. The above artwork requirements work with the Sonos Desktop Controller software.

5. If you want the art to display on an a iOS (iPad, iPod touch etc) or android device then the artwork must also be less than 256 KB in size.

Hope this helps - I have ~3,000 albums on a NAS and artwork is visible for all albums on the Desktop Controller (PC), iPad and android phone.

No ,
i am aware of all requirements from Sonos, that is not the reason.
I figured out that when i embed the same picture with MP3tag or Helium music manager it works with Sonos, but not when i embed it with MM4.
Older versions didn't have this problem (i know because pictures i embedded with earlier versions from MM do show up in Sonos).
My solution is to switch to Helium , but i like MM more.

Barrie,

The artwork tagging issue should be fixed in MM 4.0.5 by the following:
