adding only those files which have original names

Post by isaac124 »

so i have one portion of my music library very clean and organized which is in the folder which mediamonkey scans. I would like to know if there is a way that i can do the following:
1. add the unorganized part of my library to the mediamonkey scanned folder using windows explorer
2. launch mediamonkey
3. have mediamonkey scan the files in the folder and begin adding those files which were newly added using windows explorer. *with the caviat that it ONLY adds those files which have original <album>.* and those files which do not have an original album name could be deleted from the computer.

In the music unorganized library.. there are a lot of albums which were copied and backed up repeatedly and already exist in the organized part of my music.. but the unorganized library also has some stuff which i haven't really sifted through yet.

any thoughts? ideas? it would take me many many hours if i just simply put all the music in one pot and went through media monkey's duplicate title feature...

I just had an idea.

what if i were to:
1. stop syncing mediamonkey to my organized folder
2. remove all content from my library but NOT from the computer.
3. set up mediamonkey to sync to my unorganized music folder.
4. get rid of duplicates
5. organize the music in the unorganized folder so it has the same file system C:\users\username\unorganized music\<artist>-<album>\<track #>-<title>
6. use windows explorer to add the folders in the unorganized folder to the organized folder.

ok another question, is there a way to merge multiple files into one and have them play sequentially within the one track?

I think there's a much easier way of doing what you want.

Assuming you have MM Gold, just create a separate collection for each group of music. Create one called "Organized music" or something similar with the criteria specifying the file path where the organized music is stored on the PC.

Add another collection "Unorganized music" (or similar), with criteria that specifies the file path or paths where that music is stored.

You can then enable auto-organize rules based on either collection (eg. what file naming convention you want to use) and you could also use the "Entire library" node to identify duplicates across both collections without mixing them into the same folder.

To answer your last question: Yes, it is possible to merge multiple tracks into one track. However, you can't do it with MediaMonkey. You'd need another program to do that, like Audacity (free open source audio editor).

You can use MM Gold on up to 3 computers, see:

Just uninstall it on the old PC before installing on a new PC.
