Unknown Artist - SamSung Galaxy 3

Post by jared martinsen »

Setup:
Hardware - SamSung Galaxy S3 - SCH-I535
Windows 7 – latest version of gold Media Monkey.

Music files are coming from iTunes.

Problems fixed so far:
Mp3tag found bad Id3 tags. I deleted these tags and used iTunes to create a new tag for these files v2.3.

Now my music shows up properly in MediaMonkey, but when I transfer it to my 32Gig SD card I get unknown artist or unknown track even though it shows properly in MediaMonkey, Mp3tag and iTunes. Note: The unknown artist problem is only for files that I have ripped myself, not for music I have downloaded from amazon.

Please help me synch even my older songs.

Is the Album Artist value known in MediaMonkey?

Yes the artist and song name show up properly in media monkey. I even have ratings, number of times played and other information. This information doesn't transfer for ripped songs only.

What is the recommended program for a music player on the andriod? I tried doubletwist. Now using rocket player.

Maybe I need to install the Media player 10 packet?

You aren't confirming if Album Artist (not Artist) is correct in MediaMonkey.

Your right some of them don't have "album artist", they just have artist. Is there anyway to copy the field from artist to album artist?

Additionally, when I have my phone plugged in and I click on a song that is on the phone in media monkey it can't find the song and it skips over all the songs...? Is there some sort of moving of the file going on?

RegExp Find & Fix should be able to help you to copy Artist into Album Artist: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... lit=regexp

Also see: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... erties/4.0

The fact that it skips through the files means MediaMonkey can't play the files. You may want to capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and send it support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69

If you ripped your CDs to AAC (.m4a) this is the normal buggy behaviour of several (if not all) Samsung phones. The media scanner on the phone simply doesn't read the "album" tag of AAC files. Files downloaded from Amazon are not affected by this bug as these are MP3s which are correctly processed by the phone's media scanner.

To resolve this issue you can either have MediaMonkey automatically transcode the AAC files to MP3 when transferring them to the phone or use MediaFix to fix the phone's database.

Thanks lowlander, your suggestion fixed my mp3 files populating the "album artist".

Media Monkey and my phone still don't properly recognize the files that are on my phone. The funny thing is if I play the file (on my phone) by clicking on it with windows explorer, it makes a temp copy and shows up fine in media monkey with all the proper attributes. I will try to figure out how to submit a big later, I have spent 30 hours plus trying to convert 7000 files from my iPhone to android.
