Deleted tracks still in library
This has to be something obvious, and I have a vague feeling it's happened before, but darned if I can recall the solution...
I deleted an entire folder of tracks (that were duplicates of others located elsewhere).
But when I browse or search, they are still listed. Of course, they don't play - the entry just turns grey.
Why are they still there and how do I get rid of them please. I tried the obvious File > Add/Rescan...

Thanks Lowlander, I got to that second old thread just minutes before seeing your reply! And duly deleted them using Files to Edit > Dead links.
But I still don't understand why MM didn't do so when I used Rescan. Isn't that the main purpose of 'File Monitor'? If the files no longer existed (I'd removed them with Explorer), why would MM not later remove them from the library?
Could it be that I should have left that empty subfolder in place? Maybe MM's subsequent scan needed a folder to look in before it proceeded to delete the links?
Anyway, reckon I'll remember Dead Links when it happens again!

Add/Rescan isn't File Monitor. However you can enable Folder Monitor in the Add/Rescan Files dialog. Also is Remove unavailable items enabled under Tools > Options > Library?

Well, I know that! What I meant was that File Monitor's job is to specify what files to monitor, so that Add/Rescan can operate exclusively on them. In this case it apparently didn't.Lowlander wrote:Add/Rescan isn't File Monitor. However you can enable Folder Monitor in the Add/Rescan Files dialog.

No, Folder Monitoring and Add/Rescan Files are 2 separate things. They both do scan in files and both are configured in the same window, but they work independently from each other.

In that case, I'm definitely confused and need to set aside time for some reading! Does sound somewhat over-complicated...

Re: Deleted tracks still in library
I'm stucked with the same issue.
I moved mp3's (outside MM) to another location.
A MM-rescan did add them based upon the new location, but they remain in the Db at the old location too, independent how often or what level in the directory-structure I do the rescan
"Remove unavailable items" is ticked !
I'm using MM 4.0.6 and seem to remember this wasn't the behaveour in earlier versions.

Re: Deleted tracks still in library
File > Add/Rescan Files doesn't remove files. It may offer to do so if the old location where the files no longer reside is being scanned. Folder Monitoring does do this.
You can remove old/removed files under the Files to Edit > Dead Links node in a Collection.

I Rescanned the old location where the files no longer reside, but wasn't offered any possibility !
Re: Deleted tracks still in library
Maybe it does only work with Folder Monitoring. As I use MediaMonkey to move the files I'm not sure.

Re: Deleted tracks still in library
I consider that as a bug. The feature is called Add/Rescan, the name says it all :
Add : Add missing / new items
Rescan : Ignore (remove / delete) what's already known and Add what's available.
Again, I think it worked that way in the past

Re: Deleted tracks still in library
Rescan: rescan existing files for tag changes and update the database with those changes.

Re: Deleted tracks still in library
If that is the idea behind "Rescan", then it's very confusing.
IMHO, nothing prohibits to "Ignore (remove / delete)"' and "for tag changes"
The more as I said, in the past (as far I remember in MM3) the behaviour was different.
The "Edit > Dead Links node" works only for the whole Collection, and I only want to todo so for a specific directory, because not all removable drives are connected and would get removed too.

Re: Deleted tracks still in library
You can create any Collection (Gold Feature) you want including one of a specific Path.
a) I just tried it by removing 2 files from a folder and rescanning it. I was prompted that those 2 files weren't removed (MediaMonkey 4.0.7.1510)
b) It can't do it automatically as you describe drives may not be connected
c) Folder Monitoring does this
d) MediaMonkey can move the files, thus avoid the whole problem while leaving Play Counts/Playlists intact
e) If you do move outside of MediaMonkey you can use File > Locate Moved/Missing Files
