Automatic Type Tagging

I am keen to categorise my library into collections / files against their type (TV/Movies/Music etc) to aid presentation to DLNA clients.

In particular I would like a movies collection and a tv collection.
Now i can do this manually by setting a criteria on the collection eg has \TV\ or \Movies\ in path, but i see that MM has a more succinct intention on how this is done using 'type'.
I notice there is no type for movie but there is for tv.
I notice type can not be assigned against the folder you import for monitoring.
And the default TV collection filters on 'type=tv'.

I notice that
Video files are added as Type=Video except
they're added as 'Video Podcast' if Genre contains 'Podcast'
they're added as 'TV' if Genre contains 'TV Show', 'TV Series' or 'Television'
they're added as 'Music Video' if Genre contains 'Music Video'

So MM does intend to auto assign type by means of embedded tag.

Now my music is perfectly tagged with embedded data ie id3tags...but i am not familiar with the subject of video file tagging.
Is MM implying that ALL video containers, whether they be (eg) avi, mp4, mkv, vob, .divx can be tagged like mp3s can?
Should i be at all worried for my content, changing the content (embedding tags) if this possible?

Otherwise, without embedding tags into video files is there any other way to automatically set 'type' on files so they can be automatically segregated into collections and views.
Should i even care about the 'type' tag for now, as i wont get it to work for movies in any case (there is no 'movie' type)?
I could always manually select all the tv files and set their' type'...but i think i would have to keep repeating this. Alternatively i could use a filesystem criteria on my own collections (and not worry about type).

Could a knowledgeable user give me some general good practise guidance/options on how MM intends users to present tv and movies separately to users - given the comments above? Perhaps some real world experience on how you manage your TV and Movie collections/presentation.

It has already been discussed to add customization to Type, both in available Types as well as in how it is assigned. However as Type is merely a tag with a value you can use any other tag to accomplish exactly the same thing in the same way. So in Collections you can use Path, Genre, a Classification tag a Custom tag, etc. to make your own rules and it works exactly as Type does.

In other words, instead of being able to create a rule to determine Type to add to Collection you can add the same rule directly to a Collection.

My issue is that Video tag goes into iTunes as "Home Video" and not as "Movie" - I would love to figure out how to edit this field in MM.

The Type field is an internal MediaMonkey database field and which ever value shown in MediaMonkey doesn't affect other applications. You can change Type in the Properties window (to one of the predefined Types, no custom Types allowed).
