Hi, this seems a bit of a newb question, and not something I've felt the need to worry about before, but with the beta basically I'm a little nervous of either screwing up my library or worse my files on my pc.
What are the basic settings I need to enable to sync to the device and to sync playcount and ratings back to the library? I don't want MMA deleting or changing tracks on my PC, just sharing metadata.
actually while I'm here:
is there a way to stop MMA adding all existing media on the phone into the library? I don't want it picking up stupid sound tracks off games etc on the SD card or videos etc.
Can someone tell me specifically whether I should still be using USB mode or MTP? Rusty said it mattered but not which to use...
also, whats the spinning circle doing (in general?) it seems to basically run non stop.

Re: newbie question 4 playing safe
firstly, you should follow the instructions and run MMW from a portable installation folder on your pc to avoid messing with your existing version.
then, to be safe, you may want to create a small testing library of files outside of your collection.
You can restrict the media folder in MMW to prevent it picking up folders from all over the phone, you cannot currently set this in MMA though. If you connect via usb any configuration changes you make to the phone sync settings in MMW will be used for both USB and WIFI sync
the spinning icon shows when the app is working (scanning etc). It seems there are a number of issues which result in it spinning constantly, these should be fixed in the forthcoming versions.

I take it for USB/MPT sync over usb, I need to keep using what ever was working pre MMA/wireless? i.e. with a SG2, keep using USB mode - MTP seems to work for about an album or two, but transfering more than that dies and leaves hundreds of tracks as unknown artist/title.
Re: newbie question 4 playing safe
I think so, when i installed MMW 4.1 it had already put my phone in the tree. I just configured it using all the new android features in the options (browse folders etc)moonglow wrote:I take it for USB/MPT sync over usb, I need to keep using what ever was working pre MMA/wireless? i.e. with a SG2, keep using USB mode - MTP seems to work for about an album or two, but transfering more than that dies and leaves hundreds of tracks as unknown artist/title.
I currently cant get anything to work over wifi, sync doesn't complete and what files i do have end up with unknown metadata

You need to remove the existing Device Profiles for the device and let MediaMonkey generate new ones. After that sync with MMW 4.1 should work.moonglow wrote:MTP seems to work for about an album or two, but transfering more than that dies and leaves hundreds of tracks as unknown artist/title.

best way to do that? right click and delete from the tree?Lowlander wrote:You need to remove the existing Device Profiles for the device and let MediaMonkey generate new ones.
