I'm a new MM convert and I'm not sure if this is a request to find an existing feature or a new one. I'm having issues dealing with duplicate files.
Example,
Artist - Title - Album - File
Jimmy Smith - 8 Counts for Rita - Album A - Z:\Music\Jimmy Smith\Album A\8 Counts for Rita.mp3
Jimmy Smith - 8 Counts for Rita - Best Of Album - Z:\Music\Jimmy Smith\Best Of Album\8 Counts for Rita.mp3
Jimmy Smith - 8 Counts for Rita - Time Life Jazz. - Z:\Music\Jimmy Smith\Time Life Jazz\8 Counts for Rita.mp3
All three songs are identical versions, just on different releases.
Now I'm one of those OCD people when it comes to my music. If I have an album, I want the whole album, but there has to be a better way to save space. Is it possible to have the MM database records for these three songs all point to the same file ie: Z:\Music\Jimmy Smith\Album A\8 Counts for Rita.mp3 ?
I can see a few issues such as what happens if you allow MM to move and sort your files, and you'd have to be able to flag the record on the pointer records to not update the tag if you make any changes, but this has to be possible.
After writing it out,it sounds like it may be more of a feature request, so feel free to move it if needed.

Re: Duplicate Pointers
I don't believe that there is a way to do what you want but never fear ... the brainiacs here always come up with some new feature i haven't heard of.
BUT ... If you are album concentric as I am, and it sounds like you are, keep the couple extra songs. Space is cheap. The only time it gets odd is when you sync to a device. But really ... keep them all. Mp3s are your friend
