Unable to shut down MM

Post by mediamonkeychick »

Just wondered, as I am new to MM if there is some secret to closing down MM?

I am unable to close it down, either by File Exit, nor by the red X button, nor by right click Exit.

Any suggestions? I don't want to crash it but will be forced to if I can't get it to close otherwise. It does respond to everything by the way, so I can change to 'Album, Artist etc. Just can't close it.

4.0.7 (downloaded this week) and no addons. No error message. Just simply won't close. Will play music, just won't close.

In that case capture the failure in a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69

So to get this debug report I have to use Task Manager to crash MM?

No, you just close MediaMonkey like normal and let DBGView collect logs for the next few minutes after that. Then you can save and send the log from DBGView to support, it should contain the reason MediaMonkey failed to close normally.

It told me that it had 65 files to tag. So I thought I would try to do the tagging. And then I have got a couple of error messages. The fist was when trying to tag an Anthology (I think Bruce Springsteen, though I am not sure now).

Access violation at address 00432C47 in module MediaMoney.exe
Read of address 00000018

Then when I hit Ok I got another error message:
Access violation at address 0053BC53 in module MediaMoney.exe
Read of address 0000001B

I then force closed the program by stopping the process.

Okay, so your reply was to 'close Media Monkey as normal'.

How do I do that when I cannot close Media Monkey? That is the problem.

Just use File > Exit.

The log file that generates should show why the program fails to close then. You will need to send the log file to the MM support desk.

But File-Exit did not close the program.
Nothing did it. I tried it all.

Yes, that is the whole point, as you're trying to capture the failure to close. Once you've let it sit in failed close you can exit MediaMonkey through Task Manager to get on with your day. Save the log and send it to support.

in trying to install debug version I had an error message. So I have had to crash the program again.

Error message:
An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file. DeleteFile failed: code 5.
Access is denied.

Click Retry to try again. Ignore to skip the file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation.

The only thing that works is Abort.

Restart the PC and reinstall again. Either you didn't close MediaMonkey or some other application has a file lock on a file the installer needs to replace.

Error code 5 is common windows problem not just for MMW but also for almost any app that "REQUIRE" restart apron install due the file lock.

I added http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... icleid=171 that should help with both MMW and any other future problem with MMW and any other apps.
