Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
Running an auto-synch, triggered on the PC, to a android device connected by usb cable.
MMW: 4.1.0.1662
MMA: 1.0.4.0168
I have marked Auto-Synch => Device selecting a couple of Album Artists
Pressed the Auto-Synch button on the PC.
One album is not synching, and not listed in the confirmation dbox, and not showing any error.
The artist name and file directory name contains some "foreign" characters. The directory and artists name is:
Ólafur Arnalds

You should edit MediaMonkey.ini and add changes to [FilenameMappings] use Start -> Accessories -> Character Map to see HEX Values for INI

Which album it is? I mean album name and album artist name. Which confirmation box do you mean, there are confirmations only for file deletions and Device->PC file uploads.Barry4679 wrote: One album is not synching, and not listed in the confirmation dbox, and not showing any error.
Are the album tracks presented on the device (but just MMA cannot see them) or they are not copied to the device at all?
Probably debug log, item 4b here http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=6&t=341 could show more.

Artist & AlbumArtist: Ólafur ArnaldsLudek wrote:Which album it is? I mean album name and album artist name.
Album: ...And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness
I have just noticed the album name. The leading periods are making it invisible? If no I will proceed with debug log & look into Peke's suggestion (which I don't understand at this point).
I was just meaning that the album was in a list of albums to be synched. The others did, and this one didn't, and there was no mention of it in any dialogue box or error message.Ludek wrote:Which confirmation box do you mean, there are confirmations only for file deletions and Device->PC file uploads.

There is no folder for Ólafur Arnalds

Re: Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
It sounds to me like if the issue http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=10607 hasn't been fully fixed?
But I cannot replicate, so I guess that the files are hidden because of the leading dots?
I would probably need to test directly with your DB in order to be able to replicate it, would you mind to compress your MM.DB file and send it to me?
e.g. as link in private message?

Re: Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
I tested directly with your DB and the file is correctly transferred as
\Music\Ólafur Arnalds\_..And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness\01 Þú ert sólin.flac
to my device (Galaxy Nexus), i.e. the first dot is replaced by _ and file is visible on the device and playable in MMA.
So that is strange that it doesn't work same way in your case, could you enable "hidden files" on your Nexus and look if you can see the album then?
(e.g. Total Commander on Android or X-plore can do this, not sure about ES explorer as I don't use it).
But you wrote that there is no folder for 'Ólafur Arnalds' so it probably isn't the issue with leading dots.

Re: Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
I enabled the display of hidden files, but still cannot see a folder for the artist.
two thoughts:
1> MMW is running under Win 7, but my library is on a Nas, and is therefore stored under Linux. The album folder begins with a period, and this is an issue in Linux isn't it? ... MMW can see and index the tracks, but perhaps MMA has issue with the folder named like this?
2> You say that you scheduled the synch of a track. I scheduled the synch of the whole album. Maybe this is the difference?

Is the album/file playable in MMW?Barry4679 wrote: 1> MMW is running under Win 7, but my library is on a Nas, and is therefore stored under Linux. The album folder begins with a period, and this is an issue in Linux isn't it?
But MMW transfers the song to MMA asBarry4679 wrote: ... MMW can see and index the tracks, but perhaps MMA has issue with the folder named like this?
\Music\Ólafur Arnalds\_..And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness\01 Þú ert sólin.flac
i.e. without the leading dot, so this shouldn't be an issue.
This shouldn't be a difference.Barry4679 wrote: You say that you scheduled the synch of a track. I scheduled the synch of the whole album. Maybe this is the difference?
Could you generate the debug log, it should show more and would probably save our time.
Re: Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
Have just noticed that MMW cannot play the album, but my Sonos can play the album. And I have also played it via Bubble UPnP via the DLNA server on my NAS. .. ?
I de-selected the album from the synch list, and synched again. It asked to delete a playlist (?). I wasn't seeing that as I had preferences set to hide Playlists from the MMA menu.
Why did it chose to just create a just playlist for that album. I had selected a few albums, and synched. The other albums in the list were transferred, that one was not, although I now see that it must have manufactured and transferred a .m3u for it.
I send a debug file link via PM to you. Also one of the tracks.
The debug run starts after I had synched to delete the playlist.
The run covers:
* apply synch list change to re-select the album
* Auto synch triggered from the PC
* apply synch list change to de-select the album
* auto-synch which deleted the playlist

Re: Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
OK, so we are here, it seems that you were right with the ... dots making problems on NAS, if MM cannot play the album then it means that it also cannot access the files and thus it cannot copy them. If you try to copy them using Windows Explorer, does it work?MMW cannot play the album
Re: Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
Yes I can copy the tracks with the Explorer. I used it to copy a track from the Nas into dropbox, as per prior post.
Also MMW can handle the files to some extent. My procedure is to initially rip to my PC drive. Then to index into MMW, and double check the tags & art. Then use MMW to transfer the album to the NAS by dragging the MMW indexed entry for the whole album down to my NAS in the MyComputer/Network/etcetc entry in the MMW Media Tree.

Re: Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
Your NAS is likely running some flavor of Linux which will set folders/files to hidden that start with . As files are hidden they shouldn't add to the MediaMonkey Library (they don't for me), unless you manually drag & drop them into the Library. I haven't had any problems playing the files though once they're in the Library.

I rip to the PC using dBpoweramp. Then add them to the MMW index while they are on the PC. Then move them to the NAS, with MMW, as per the procedure from my prior post.
And, yes, the NAS runs Linux.
I guess that this is why you can't see the problem, and it makes the "problem" pretty much an edge case I suppose. ... although I can't playn or synch albums which have been accepted into MMW and are displayed in its browser, and which are playable by other music players ... all of which isn't a good look for MMW.

Re: Synch can't handle unicode directory/artists name?
MediaMonkey doesn't scan in hidden files as this allows you to hide files from MediaMonkey. That's kind of the purpose of hidden files, to hide them. The flaw is that some programs don't escape the . (EAC doesn't either for me), however it seems neither of us is directly ripping to the NAS (Linux) as I also rip to Windows, then move the files. MediaMonkey on the hand should escape the . when ripping/renaming files.

It still seems to be a messy situation that MMW can get itself into, and will lead to support calls.
You don't think that when someone is using MMW to drag and drop some MM indexed tracks, whose folder name starts with a period, onto a linux NAS, that it should either:
1> escape the period
2> or refuse the drag source
Otherwise MMW will have tracks that you can browse to, but which can't be played with MMW, and can't be synched.
