This is not a bug with MMA as it occurs for Google Play as well, but I'm hoping someone might have a suggestion.
I experienced an issue this morning where my phone would not play audio for some reason. I thought maybe it thought it was in mute mode, but when I went to the sound settings, I could see that was not the case. I could select the ringer (or any other item) volume and it would play audio at the specified volume. The only one that did not work was the media volume. In that case, it sorta popped quietly (similar to when an audio source or speakers are plugged in). I tried playing music several times and killed the app (both MMA and Google Play) multiple times. Eventually after about 5 minutes of playing the audio just started working.
I'm running ICS 4.0.4 on a Droid4. The only thing that I can see possibly being a source for this would be a sleep rule via SmartActions 4.2.2.4.0 (current version AFAIK) that tells the phone to go on mute and not vibrate at night (unless my wife calls). I don't know how to force this issue to occur which makes it more difficult to understand what's causing it. Anyone seen anything similar?

Re: Media volume issue
The only similar report I've seen in the forum is in relation to reduced volume on bluetooth, but I doubt the two are related:

Re: Media volume issue
It sounds like a similar phenomenon, but not a similar scenario as you pointed out. It seems like the phone is getting confused as to where the audio should be sent for media. In my case at least, all other sounds work through the headphones as expected. Peculiar... I'll try searching another Android forum for "inaudible media" to see if that finds anything.
