Songs only in alphabetical order?

Post by Prummel »

I can't sort the songs of an album in the order of the album. Songs only play in alphabetical order, or random in shuffle mode. Is there a setting I can't find? Or is this because it's still a beta version?

Songs in an Album normally play according to track order. If you're using the latest version of MMA and that's not the case, please Click Albums > <Any Album> . The tracks should display along the following lines:

Tr#. Title . . . . . . . Time
Artist
.
.
.

Are the track numbers displayed for the tracks on your album? If not, then it means that somehow, that either:
a) the track's tags don't possess that information. You can resolve that by editing the Track numbers in MMW
b) the Track# metadata somehow got lost e.g. if the database was deleted. If the latter is the case, try installing the latest builds that are going to be posted today, and resyncing (from scratch if a regular sync doesn't solve the problem).

Let me know if this solves the problem for you. Thanks!

I am still trying to work out how to play an album in track order. Playing alphabetically just doesn't make sense. I have the latest version of MMA but it still doesn't do this. (Up n p, by the way)

Are you saying you're playing from UPnP? That's an important distinction as UPnP has the file order determined by the server and not MMA. What UPnP server are you using?

Ok I have a Seagate networked drive which Media Monkey Android can see and play albums from. But it always plays the tracks in alphabetical order. Are you saying this means they must be Alphabetically sorted on the hard drive?

No, I think what Lowlander means it is depends on how the server requests/delivers the tracks. For example, I believe if you use the MMW as the server you should see the tracks in track no order when looking at the albums

For example, when I look at my buffalo nas through dlna and bring up an album. It is in alpha order. But when I bring up same from MMW (using mmA) it shows in track no order

OK, thanks I am not using MMW as a server. I have MMW on my desktop PC but I use the NAS hard drive as the server - there seems little point turning on my PC specially when the media is available on the NAS which is running anyway.

So, I think I'm concluding that what I'm being told here is that by using MMA to access my media in the way I do, I will only be able to play the tracks in alphabetical order.

No, by using the Seagate Media Server this is the case as it serves the Album alphabetically.

Haha, ok, pedantically yes. That wasn't intended as a slight on MMA. It was the'in this way' part that was most relevant, not the'using MMA' part.
Whatever, ultimately the result is the same:- I can't play my tracks in numerical order

You should check with Seagate if there is anything that can be done about the sort order of Albums served over DLNA. They may have already fixed the issue or you may need to tag files properly to get this working.

If I access the drive using Seagate's media app the files are in track order. Seems there is a trade off here between user friendliness (MM) or track order (seagateh

Researching this today I discovered that the Seagate orders tracks by time stamp. I deduce that if I had ripped my CDs directly to the server they would be time stamped in track order but because they were ripped to PC and then copied to NAS, they were copied alphabetically and thus time stamped in that order, which is why MM gets them in what appears to be alphabetical order. Apparently Seagate sees nothing strange in this....

In the future, when we add Sorting to MMA, we could also allow custom sorting of UPnP content . Added this feedback to:

Thanks.
