Windowed mode

Post by pbrown »

I've changed over to the pro versions on both the Windows client and the Android version mainly for the wifi sync of video and play counts.

But there is one particular feature I'm missing from when I used Moboplayer, and that is the Windowed mode when the home button is pushed. Can even resize the player and move it around the screen and use other apps while the video plays.

Is there any plans to let mediamonkey play in anything but full screen mode?

We'll look into that, post 1.04.

Thanks.

Thanks. Might sound silly, but what does "post 1.04" mean? I couldn't find a wish list or future features topic for the android version, only the windows version.

MMA 1.0.4 is the current release that is being worked on. Once it is released as final new features for MMA 1.0.5 and higher will be looked at. This is when feature requests like this one may get added.

Is there an official way to make suggestions for features?

My other obvious solution would be a screen lock for video.

Also more codec support as there have been a few videos that didn't play but played in another player.

Cheers, Peter.

Well I've worked out a temporary work around on my note 10.1 2014 edition.

I've found an app that adds most applications to the s-pen window function and also the split screen function. And it worked with mediamonkey. Well the split screen one stretches the video vertically but the Windowed function works.

Not anywhere as refined as the other players inbuilt window mode that can be easily resized and switched between Windowed mode and full screen. Nor will it work for any tablet that isn't a Samsung tablet. So this is still a requested feature for me.

But it works and now means I don't need to resort to the other player when I want to do other things with the video playing in the corner (I do this when reading emails for work on the train)

Problem I have with this using the above method, MW-Pen App Enabler, is the Pro install doesn't work any more and it stays marked as a beta. Assume because the beta apk is modified before install. Also I don't think play updates work any more due to the modification to the apk.

But I'll stick with this method until it either causes dramas with the beta expiring on me, or the window mode is implemented.

Edit : It appears that the features of the pro version like wifi sync, customised desktop, folder navigation etc are implemented. But I still see upgrade to pro on the menu and didn't see the screen to say mediamonkey was upgraded on initial launch.

OK. I have copied the description of what the Pen App Enabler does. Hoping initially that at least the window mode can be added to the next release if it's not too hard because then updates and the pro app will work as standard. I could even track down exactly what meta-data needs to be inserted if it helps. The split screen mode stretches the video, but thats the only problem.

"MW-PEN App Enabler is my attempt to automate the process of inserting the necessary meta-data to any apps' AndroidManifest.xml to be recognized as a pen/multi window app by Samsung's multiwindow framework right within your phone without needing a PC/laptop and having to learn to use apktool/apk manager/apk multi-tool, etc."

So I'm assuming there is no immediate plan to at least edit "AndroidManifest.xml to be recognized as a pen/multi window app by Samsung's multiwindow framework" until an Application specific windowed mode can be developed?

Hi,

We haven't looked into this, and I'm not sure what possible regressions might arise, which is why I haven't entered this into mantis yet. My preference is to look into this after 1.0.4 is out the door.

Looks like I'll stick to using the app I mentioned above to modify the apk so I can use it in windowed mode for a while by the sounds of it.

It works with no errors to date, but I will have to uninstall and reinstall from play store every time mediamonkey gets an update then modify the file to enable its windowed mode again. Not the end of the world as I won't have to do it very often.... But not sure if installing the pro version actually works though. All function work now, but guess I'll find out eventually if it expires.

Thanks for the reply and update.
