The truncation only happens if the songs are already on the iPod and resynced because of a change in the tag. Deleting all the songs and resyncing will cause the lyrics/comments to be shown correctly but altering the tag in any way will truncate the lyrics/comments on any next sync.
I haven't commented on this before as I have sporadically been checking the forums and changelogs for possible fixes, trying every possible solution on the forums that I could find to no avail.
What I have found out so far using MM 4.06.1501 (older versions of MM behaved slightly different in some respects):
- Tags synchronize correctly on first time adding songs;
- Tags synchronize incorrectly once anything is changed in tag unless:
+ Syncing is done by syncing selection only;
+ It is the first couple of songs to be synchronized (so no changes are noticeable when only one song’s tag is changed). The amount of songs to be correctly synchronized is a complete mystery to me.
Mentioned solutions I tried without success include:
- Only using ID3v2 labels (so deleting the other type of label and setting library settings to only using one type of label).
- Removing album art
- Removing the tag from the file and syncing it with the tags stored in the MM library (CTRL+S) prior to syncing with device
- Changing the ID3v2 characterset from ASCII + UTF-16 to just ASCII
- All combinations of settings in Device Profile – Tags
- Rebuilding device library
I have auto-conversion turned on for FLAC to MP3 for my iPod but there seems to be no difference in the way lyrics are truncated.
Best way I found to reproduce the problem:
- Use auto-sync
- Sync a correctly labeled album of any artist with each song containing long enough lyrics and/or comments (containing more than 250 characters).
- Unplug device
- Change the name of the synced album by selecting all its songs at once and editing the properties.
- Plugin device and auto-sync
- Go to album on device using MM and lookup the tags of the songs in the album
- Press F5
- Lookup the tags of the songs in the album again to see any changes (the first song of the album will most likely be without any changes).
I really enjoy MM and would immediately buy gold edition for the extras if it wasn’t for this bug (I use my iPod extensively and all of the songs in my library have lyrics). Even with this bug MediaMonkey is still the best music player I have come across
