Serious bug with "Tab Controller" [#11912]

Post by Pathduck »

Hi,
installed 4.1 final today - and after playing music and doing stuff in the library for a while, got some really nasty bugs with crashes and message-boxes filling the screen

I think it's related to having disabled the Tabs bar, and somehow I do something to cause the standard "default" tab to appear in the tab bar even if it's disabled. However, this also then contains an 'x' to close it... If I click this X the following messages appear and I have to terminate the MM process.

"Tab Controller in TabsManager must not be nil!"

See screenshot:
Image

Not sure how to reproduce exactly, will try some more tomorrow, or if anyone else has seen this (would surprise me if no-one else has). It seems to be related to alt-tabbing probably,

It also might be related to having two screens, since MM 4.1 seems to behave strangely when resizing/maximizing? But I think mainly this is because I have disable the tabs, since I do not like how they look, and I tend not to use tabs anyway.

Here are my system specs:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
System Type x64-based PC
System Model P5E64 WS EVOLUTION
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz, 2830 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8,00 GB
Name NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580
Driver Version 9.18.13.3221
Resolution 1280 x 720 x 60 hertz

You should capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69

I would, if I was able to reproduce in a consistent manner...

Surprising if no-one else has seen this at all?

I guess this is on Windows XP? I can't see any way to close a tab when it's the last one open.

No I'm on Windows 7.

And yeah, it should not be possible to close the last tab, but that's what happens - there is an X on the last tab, when I click it, that's when it happens.

I have problems doing a repro but have installed the debug build and maybe if I fool around long enough something happens...

Using a quite old version of Delletronic skin - but I don't think that's related but I will try once I get it recreated.

I haven't seen the close on the last tab here, even with the tab bar set to auto-hide.

I've been experiencing the same problem on my Win7-64 rig with MM 4.10.1692. Even though I've disabled the tab bar in Tools - Options - Library - Appearance the darn thing "reappears" fairly often. If I click on the tiny "x" to close the tab, as mentioned by Pathduck, I get the same results . . . a screen full of error message pop-ups and a locked-up MM interface. Can only close it with Ctl-Alt-Del. If, on the other hand, INSTEAD of clicking on the tiny "x" on the tab, I go back into Tools - Options - Library - Appearance and click the box next to "Always show the tab bar" and then UN-click it and "OK out" then the tab bar disappears. Until next time.
Weird little bug.

Hey KidComox - glad to see someone else is seeing it as well, I thought it me doing something wrong

I have been unable to reproduce the problem since I installed the Debug build. So if you are able to install the Debug build and provide a log when the problem occurs, or run DbgView as well, that would be great. Have a look at this for help:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69

Also we are running the same OS (x64 Win7) so possibly this could help narrow it down for the devs.

Granted, for me it's not a huge bug, since I've been unable to reproduce last weeks, but for you if you use MM more than I do and do a lot more in the interface besides just playing, then it would happen a lot more I would guess.

Hello Peke - as you can see from my screenshot (isn't it obvious? :), I am running the Delletronic Skin with some minor modifications.

Do you think it's a skin problem? If so then maybe KidComox is running another skin, or even the same?

If I was able to find a way to replicate I would try to use default skin and see if the problem is with the skin.

Stian

Send me that skin for testing. I suspect that there is a bug in skinning as you have aero disabled so you also have [x] on last tab.

Hello Peke - here is the skin for download. Let me know if you can't get it for some reason.

You are correct that I have Aero disabled, so I hope that's not causing it. Also I hope the skin is not to blame, and if so it can be fixed, as I do love that skin 8)

Right, I think I've managed to find a step to reproduce this.

1. Go to any music folder/album in library.
2. Choose Tools > Auto organize files
3. Two tabs appear, one for auto-organize.
4. Press enter to organize or just Esc to end.

It should show one tab with an X, like this:

In addition:
- It seems not related to skin as I tried with the Default (Gilded) skin and the same happens:
Image

- I've also tried to enabled Aera in Windows7, and the error is still there.

I run the Debug build and sent an error report through the dialog so hopefully that arrives.
