Some Files Fail Add/Rescan

Post by tugadaq »

I have a number of files downloaded from Rhapsody. Most add to Library without problem, but there are some that do not. Yes, I have a valid license. They will play in MM, but are ignored in the scan - no message that anything has been skipped. No information in the Log File other than a list of titles that were added. Yes, I have checked in Location - not there. Yes, I have permissions. The song titles are no longer that the others in same album that have been added. MM version 4.1.7.1741. OS Win 7 Pro.

Thanks for any help.

4.1.8 is the current version.

What type of files are they?

About how many problem files?

Are you saying the problem files are still around or they disappeared?

8 full albums with no problems, another partial albums no problems. One album had 1 song fail out of 9, another 12 failed out of 40.

No, the songs did not disappear from their windows folder, but I checked location in MM to be sure they did not appear another artist/album.

Also installed new version - same result.

Find a couple of the problem tracks, copy them to a test folder, and reconvert them to the exact same specs > scan the two files from the
test folder to the library and see if they add properly.

Because of DRM, I cannot do a direct conversion. I did convert to WMA 192 stripping out the DRM - still will not add. Did a second conversion with another program from 192 bit to 192 bit. Still will not add.

Do you know if they will convert to a different format, with the DRM situation?

Did you check "WMA" in the "File types" box? If so, send a sample file to MM support. http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/

Thanks. I have submitted a ticket. And yes wma is checked.

It appears the songs are being added, but no information is going into the database. If I remove the song after scanning and rescan, I receive a message that the song is no longer in the data base. Converting to wav (stripping out the drm), it will add the song in location, but without any tag information. Attempting to convert to mp3 0r m4a (stripping out drm), gives me the same results as the original. Since the conversion to wav strips out tags, the problem may be with the tags. But I can read them under properties in windows, and MM has no problem reading the tags (at least for title and artist - even if filename has been changed) when playing the file.

Then the issue is with your files tags. It probably doesn't have any.

The problem is probably with the tags. But it has file tags. They are readable in windows properties. MM also reads the Artist and Title tag when playing directly. But if it can't read the tags, MM should at least put the file in Location as it does with the tagless WAV files and if it can read them when playing, it ought to be able to read them when scanning.

Received a reply from Media Monkey - they were great. Problem solved. Songs were tagged as Classical. Rhapsody has a warped idea of Classical. One Barbra Streisand song and 12 tracks (out of 40) of a Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys album. Classical? Perhaps Beethoven is classed as Hip Hop. Eight hours screwing around with this.

To clarify the problem, they were there all along, in the library? You just couldn't find them because they were classified differently than where you were looking?

Yes, that is correct. They were put in classical music which has a totally separate division in the database including location. Did not look at the genre tags and did not dream they would have been tagged classical.
