Removing old podcast subscriptions

Post by Podcaster »

Hi,

I've been using MediaMonkey for years and have accumulated quite a lot of old podcasts in the subscriptions area. However, I've never been able to work out how to remove them from there without losing the files (which I want to keep). Is there a way to do this that I'm missing?

I've also had an issue with apparently random tracks from old albums (WMAs and MP3s) showing up in this node which it would be good to resolve in the same way.

Any help would be gratefully received! Thanks very much.

If files show in Podcast that shouldn't change Type in Properties to something else than Podcast or Video Podcast.

Right clicking on a subscription should allow you to remove it and you're given a choice to remove the files or not. However why keep the files and not the subscription (as you can set it to not download new episodes)?

Thanks for the reply. The reason for keeping the old podcasts is to have an archive and the reason for removing the podcast subscriptions is that most of them are no longer active so just act as clutter when browsing the active ones.

When I unsubcribe and then remove the subscribed podcasts the only option I get is to either remove the files just from the library or to remove them from both the library and computer. I do actually want to keep them in the library though - just as normal music-style files though without being associated with a defunct podcast.

Also, the few music files which appear as podcasts are definitely showing as being the type 'music' rather than podcasts.

If your podcast might be DRMed it is essential to back up copies of the DRM licenses in a very safe place. I always feel sorry for the fools that back up their music but not their DRM licenses before getting rid of their old computer. Later they find they can't play all their music. They may or may not be able to get a replacement.

This is probably not applicable to your case but you never can be sure.

Right clicking the subscription only gives you two options: remove from Library only and remove from Library and Computer. The reason to NOT do this is because you want the file to remain in your library if you want to listen to it again. However, in 2011, 2012, 2013, NPR was marking every episode as a subscription, so Media Monkey shows HUNDREDS of subscriptions instead of just showing the file/episode in it's appropriate folder. I want to remove those hundreds of subscriptions but keep the files in my library, and there doesn't seem to be anyway to do this (if you alter the subscription under "Podcast>Subscriptions>"Episode," Media Monkey forces you to remove the file (not just the subscription) from your Library. Even if you change the "Type" from Podcast to Music (or something else), Media Monkey still only gives you the two options of "Delete from Library only" and "Delete from Library and Computer." I can't find anyway to alter the file inside or outside of Media Monkey to correct this problem.

You'd think if you removed the podcast file from the Media Monkey library and then re-imported the file, you'd be free from the subscription listing, but Media Monkey puts it right back into the podcast subscriptions, and I have no idea where the information that makes it go there is contained (because it's not in the tag or any other metadata that I can find). Quite infuriating.

Subscriptions won't remove/unsubscribe

Post by Voltron8MyHat »

Infuriating, isn't it? I have hundreds of subscriptions to NPR: Fresh Air, and they are all listed as subscriptions (not just files to listen to). There doesn't seem to be a way to remove the subscriptions without removing the entire episode from the library (thus, if you remove the subscription, you can't listen to the file)! Pretty awful.

There doesn't seem to be any information in the metadata that would be causing this to happen (I've opened the files with 8 different programs that give you various levels of access to MP3 tags and metadata), so I can only assume the issue is in some association in the Media Monkey database, but I can't get up the gumption to go searching for the needle in that haystack.
