I just tried to open my WebMonkey.m3u with pointers to gettrack.asp?song=123 in RealPlayer 8 Basic and it works fine. Not sure what's up on your end.

That is very kind of you.

I use version 10, but it might be the firewall blocking the needed update. Of course it could also be the different ways our code send the file. I send you a PM with my email if you wish to share. Anyway I still need to work on the code and it does work in wmp.

Quick little bug-

The tree open image for Artist points to "img/tree_open.gif'%20alt=" and doesn't show. I'm guessiong there's a quotation mark missing. Not a big deal, but it shows an image place holder instead of the collapse/minus.

That's correct, I already corrected this in the new version. There is a single ' quotation that should be a double double quotation ""

The realplayer problem was my fault, I was sending the songs with the wrong contenttype. WMP didn't have a problem, but real did.

Another that I noticed is that WMP requests the file 3 times thru the gettrack.asp. This means that the playcounter would be updated 3 times. So I will need to rewrite the code to catch that.

I also tried to send local files (to client, not server) thru the response.redirect and that doesn't work. I haven't found a solution yet so that is still open for now.

You might also take a look at WaWi Monkey

I tried the WAWI plug-in, but it's not exactly what I want. I like the asp interface much better, so I can customize it to work the way I want. I think WebMonkey has a lot of potential and I look forward to future versions.

As far as WMP requesting the page three times, that seems kind of odd. Is it possible to check the number of bytes sent to determine whether the song was actually played (or even partially played)?

I'm not sure if you can check the bytes send. Anyway I set a trap for this, but the problem is that WMP asks so fast that the MS Access DB is to slow for the trap to work. Of course I'm working locally so over the internet this might work better (or worse).

The Wawi plugin I still need to try, but it is for controlling MediaMonkey instead of heaving access to music online. Just thought I'd mention it.

The other thing about WAWI is that it required (I think) WinAmp or MediaMonkey be running. With WebMonkey, it works through whatever webserver is running. Since most webservers run as a service, I just have to have the computer turned on.

Which is one of the reasons I wrote WebMonkey. It works independent of MediaMonkey so it runs as service as well allows you to install it somewhere without MediaMonkey (like a hosting service). It actually started as a project to allow other people to see your collection, but has grown to include access to music as well.

Player ?

Post by Globi »

Hello

Thank you very much for your work. I trying it on my home Network.

I can't see the player on my site neither on your site (live).

So I cannot play any of my songs from my database.
My System (WinXP home with Jana Server 2 and Active html from Selisoft), Firefox 1.5 or IE 6.0.

What do I have to install or change?

I also have not yet managed to show the AlbumArt. I still don't know in which folder the jpg should be stored. I tried img/albums.

I can only browse in my database.

I am a real newbie I just copied all your files. Is there some kind of step by step quide for Dummies?

regards,

I'm sorry but there isn't really a step by step guide for WebMonkey. The most important file is settings.asp where you can adjust the options.

In the settings file you'll need to enable the player (and user playlists) to be able to use the internal player (inside the website). You can also save playlists to your PC so you can play them in MediaMonkey.
For the player to actually show in the website you will need to have real player or windows media player installed correctly. If not a message will inform you that no player was found.

You'll need to create the album art with the include exportalbumart script. This will create album art files in c:/album_files. From there you'll need to copy them to the website img/albums directory. The key is that WebMonkey used the albumID as name for the album art.

I hope that this explained it all. Please come back with any questions you have or any requests for future versions. Enjoy!

Can you please include a link to both Jana Server and Selisoft. I'm interested in checking out that software.

Thank you very much for the reply.

I have seen a guest gave you already the links.

Step by step I get closer. Now I see the playlist and the player. Althought I cannot yet add any songs to the playlist.

I still cannot see the albumart. I did as you wrote. I have put the files for example "804.jpg" into the folder /img/albums.

When I click on the player, I get a popup asking whether I want to open or download the "m3u" file. When I click open with mediaplayer or winamp, they open, but nothing happens. When I download the file, then it's empty exept for "#EXTM3U".

Have a nice evening!

You'll need to enable user playlists. Now you need to add songs to the list, which can be done with the user playlist button next to the songs. After that you can play them internally or save it as m3u.

Album art can be seen when you view the tracks as albumlisting or coverlisting. This can be done in the menu bars of WebMonkey.

How's the next version coming? I figured I'd let you be for a few days as you were probably getting a little tired of me. I've been using the current version with my gettrack.asp and I'm pretty happy. Also, since I made that change with adsutil to 40, it works great (no more missing pictures or frames). I've got a few more suggestions if you're interested.
