HELP!
I know I must be missing something, or MM is missing something...
I am having problems with this...
What I want is to *truncate* filename fields that are over a certain length.
According to the help file:
field:n PRE-*PADS* spaces to the length specified
field:-n POST-*PADS* spaces to the length specified
How can I simply *TRUNCATE* filename fields that are over certain lengths (so I don't keep running into 256 path\filename limits in windows)????
field:n vs field:-n vs truncate?
Moderator: Gurus
The problem is that you have various fields and the combination shouldn't be longer. So if you use field:n you would need to define it for various fields so the total isn't too long.

Yes, I have different fields specified to certain lenghts, however _SPACES_ are padded before ora after the field.
There does not appear to be a way to truncate a field to a length, without padding smaller fields.
