Albums with special characters have no album art [#13719]

Post by DannyDeLoach »

I have MMA version 1.0.6.0293. I'm syncing with MMW version 4.1.3.1708. Each of the albums with a special character (e.g. "#") in the album title appear with no album art in MMA. How can I fix this?

Start by updating MMW to at least the latest version (4.1.4) or better yet both MMA and MMW to their latest betas.

Sorry about that. I usually try to keep my installations up to date, but I had not checked for new versions recently.

I updated MMW to version 4.1.4.1709.

I downloaded the beta apk for MMA 1.0.7.298. However, I could not get it to install. I have previously been able to side load MMA beta apk files. However, I wonder if the reason I can't do that now is because I have the RC version installed.

So, i still have MMA 1.0.6.293. After updating to the most recent version of MMW (as indicated above), I re-synced and albums with the "#" symbol in the album title still appear with no album art.

I tried to install MMA Beta from the Play Store, and I got an error message "Duplicate provider authority".

For my wife's birthday this weekend I purchased a couple of albums and transferred them to our Android tablet for her to enjoy. Unfortunately, one of the albums had special characters in the title of the album. So, there is no album art to accompany the songs when they play on the tablet.

I sure wish there was a workaround for this issue. I appreciate all the suggestions that have been given thus far, but none of them have helped and I don't know how to get around the "Duplicate provider authority" error when I try to install the MMA Beta app.

Bumping this thread. It is still an issue.

Also, renaming the album does not work. Somehow, MMA still "remembers" the old name.

Which version of MMA, MMW and Android, are you syncing via wifi or USB, are you syncing to internal or external memory, and have you tried to start fresh on MMA (so passed bugs aren't affecting you)?

If you sideload APK I would suggest that you firstly uninstall current version. Also if you want to apply for a beta install regular version from Play Store and then after install in Menu -> About you can apply for Beta program.

Where do you renamed Album? Can you give us exact steps as I'm not being able to replicate on my devices.

4.1.14.1813 MMW, 1.2.0.0620 MMA, 4.4.2 Kitkat (latest version available for this device), Wi-Fi sync to SD card, and yes this is from a new version with blank database.

I tried renaming the album in MMW, even renamed its source folder. But while the album name in MMA syncs with the new name, when I check the actual folder location, the folder retains the old name, even when I delete it before syncing!

Can you give me exact Album name and tag data in MMW and I'll create phantom track to work/test it.

Did you enable the option to enforce the Mask for files already on the device and checked the appropriate folders to manage? Otherwise you shouldn't expect folder/filenames to be modified on sync for files already on the device.

that part makes little sense to me, it may be due to the chosen Destination Mask.

If I delete the offending folder on the Android device, and the album from MMA, then change the album name in MMW and ID3 tags of the music files to remove the offending character, the folder created to store the album on the Android device during sync STILL has the special character! It's the # in the folder name which has to be causing it. I'm testing a few things here too and thought I nearly got it working at one point...

Also, the files show cover artwork perfectly fine if I play them in the standard Android music player.
