Given this, and with the situation in Russia right now, do you trust this outfit with the credit/debit card number you need to prepay them with?
Also, what's the advantage of "192k CBR lame", what is it, and can it be easily converted to be written onto CDs and MP3 players? (It's all just numbers to me...) :-?

mate, don't be bigoted, you've got to watch every county NOT just Russia. EVERY country has it's fair share of scammers----I've yet to be ripped off my allofmp3.com, whereas I've experienced numerous dodgy dealers from UK and USA (mostly). Higher numbers generally mean higher quality and consequently higher costs (ooooh $2.99 an album---sure beats rip off itunes and others)

Go by what mayor outfits like pc magazine and such say. They trust them although no one is sure about the legality of the service.

For UK users: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5051826.stm
"The BPI said it planned to sue allofmp3.com in the UK courts but that users would not be prosecuted."

Most news the last weeks points to that allofmp3 is on it's last breath. Too many forces and very high stakes don't bode well for allofmp3.

Any links lowlander? I have some balance remaining with them and would be better off using it now if they're on the verge of extinction. Agree that like all good things it wasn't meant to last forever...

It's been on most tech sites and sites like bbc. It might not be a bad idea to use up remaining balance or maintain a very low balance as it could be closed. The main rumor is that the USA is blocking Russias entry into the WTO pending allofmp3's closure. I'm pretty sure that googling will find news reports that you trust. So now it's just a waiting game as allofmp3 has been almost closed many times.

allofmp3

While I prefer to use eMusic for all of my music downloads, I have used it in the past and have known people who have used allofmp3.com since 2003. It has been a very reputable service and has a very large library of quality content; however, I do believe that they will be closing doors soon based on recent press. Also - citizens of the US in particular should be advised that it likely *is* illegal to use this service based on our digital copyright infringement laws. So proceed with caution.

Allofmp3 is NO different than using Limewire to get music - there's nothing legitimate, legal, or moral about using the service. The artists don't get a cent of the money you pay. If you're going to steal music, steal it, don't try to make yourself feel better by using this service. That's my 2 cents. ;-)

Except for the fact that I get consistently excellent quality OGGs by "stealing" it from allofmp3 :P

And (in the UK at least) you cannot get prosecuted for using Allofmp3 whereas you can for using Limewire (or similar). It's Allofmp3 who have to worry about legal action.

I feel should specify at this point that I actually buy 95% of my music from my local supermarket. I have been filling in a few gaps in my collection - odd songs and more obscure stuff, which is hard to find in shops - using Allofmp3 who have a surprising amount of stuff I haven't managed to find anywhere else.

If you like a group/artist then you should buy the album to support them, otherwise they might disappear!

so that is how everyone gets their large music librarys.

they steal the songs. and in the process let some one else pick their level of sound quality on the songs..

no thanks i would rather put the songs from my albums in to my computer library so i can keep good sound quality at my level of it, not someone elses level. 8)

Haha, too bad you're wrong. You can choose the sound quality of the MP3's you download at AOMP3.com. Anywhere from 64kbps to 320 kbps.

Well until it comes before a judge in the UK and he decides that "Mr A" knowingly downloaded music from a pirate site and throws the book at him.

Using AllofMP3 to download music is just plain piracy, there's no two ways about it. If you like bands, support them by buying CDs - there are lots of sites where you can buy 'em cheap these days, it just takes a bit of research... and no, not Ebay, they're more expensive than Amazon Marketplace these days :o Some people have more money than sense...
