Machine Crash. Need Advice to further troubleshoot

Post by Corprolite »

I have this fairly reproducible way to crash my machine with media monkey when attempting to burn a cd. I have no problems burning cd's when I put all tracks in a playlist and send the playlist to a cd to burn, but if I select tracks from a node or a search for an album, bingo I get a crash. Here is an example:

Step one: Search for Artist or Album
Step two: From search result Select all tracks
Step three: Right Click Send To CD Burn

Screen freezes at this point (the burn screen doesn't come up) for a few seconds and then I get the blue screen and a machine exception error.

Upon restart I get the machine has recovered from a serious error message and the microsoft regarding hardware failure etc.

I have the latest Media Monkey (registered user) and the only plugins I run are audioscrobbler and magic nodes.

Here is the machine specs
Operating System
Version: 5.1.2600 System Locale: en-us
Service Pack: 2.0 User Locale: en-us
Build Lab: 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 Geo ID: United States

Architecture: x86 Indiv Version: 2.7.0.1
Processors: 2

Microsoft.net framework 1.1 (version 1.1.4322.573)

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 35 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~2004 Mhz
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 35 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~2004 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 3.01, 2/9/2006
SMBIOS Version 2.4
Total Physical Memory 1,024.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 158.91 MB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB
Page File Space 2.26 GB

Internet Explorer: Version 7.0.5335.5

So is this a problem with my machine or a conflict with media monkey and something else? Would a debug log help since it locks up. I don't want to force my machine to fully crash if I don't need to and I don't know if repeated crashes wil mess up my system.

Advice, ideas are requested. I can avoid the issue if I create a playlist prior to burning, but I want to figure out if something else is wrong.

From this info I have noticed few things:
1. Low physical Memory
2. Large Page File

You have something that is eating the memory.

Here is what I have:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
Processor x86-64 Family F Model C Stepping 2 Ext.Family F Ext.Model 2C Revision DH-E6 (AMD Sampron 64 Authentic 2800+ 1607.4Mhz)
Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 143.51 MB
Total Virtual Memory 512.00 MB

The Q is that is most likely that something is in conflict.
Do MM work without problems prior to burning or not using Burning as there is several questenable issues that could rise that kind of full system crash?

BTW I really would like to get my hands on that kind of Machine. It should be lighting fast.

Okay, thanks for the input. Yes I have a ton of crap eating away at the physical memory. This is a newer computer that i bought with a month ago and I have yet to go through and clean out the junk from the services etc that are already started.

I was worried about a possible problem with a physical piece of the computer, but I haven't had any crashes with anything else.

Media monkey runs fine, but slows when I click on the incomplete albums node in magic nodes.

I will look in to reducing the load and structuring memory use a little better.

Thanks for the information.

There is possibility that Burning Engine is not Compatible with Dual Processor but we must first make some logical things out before start in deep analizes.

It burns fine when I burn an entire playlist. Its only when I try to burn from a selection of a playlist via the send to command or from a search that I have issues.

Would running a debug help

Roll Back to earlier version works

Okay, I uninstalled and reinstalled latest version with same result. Still crashes, but now crashes each time i try to burn, no matter how I try to sort files or playlists.

I tried to run a debug version but since it completely locks up the machine, there is no way to record a debug log.

So I installed 2.5.2.951 (the last version I still had saved on my computer) and no issues.

Tommorow I will try to upgrade to latest again and see if the crashing resumes, but it seem to me to be an issue with the cd burning process of the latest version
